Postpartum Hemorrhage tool kit

Hello,

I was wondering if your place of employment has a Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH) toolkit that includes an algorithm, checklist, and a PPH cart with supplies. If so what do you include? We are interested in doing something at my place of employment.

I haven't seen anything in the way of an algorithm or checklist (we just administered what MD asked for) but we had a sealed kit that included 5 tabs of cytotec, and a couple bottles each of pit, hemobate and methergine. We kept it in the med fridge so in an emergency we could just grab that pack instead of fishing out individual vials. I always had to be careful not to forget syringes and needles though! Might be nice if those are included.

Also, you should have a Bakri balloon handy.

Yes we have everything in a bag in the med room. To be hoesy I can't remember what all is in it but I know we have a few bags of fluid, needles, syringess, etc and then pit in the fridge.

I just began my OB rotation and during our floor orientation the PPH cart was pointed out to us. It was just that - a cart in the hallway. We haven't delved into post partum yet, but once I learn what's inside I'll pass it on.

It would typically be part of the L&D portion - most PPH happen immediately after delivery.

I work on postpartum and we also have a PPH kit in the fridge. Cytotec, hemabate, pitocin, methergine, syringes, gauze, alcohol pads, flushes and I can't remember what else right this second.

Recently (well last 6 years but in Obs and Gyn thats fairly recent) we made up emergency/homebirth kits using large tool boxes and they've worked out great.

We have the medications (Syntocinon, Syntometrine and Ergometrine) in a compartment and actually the drugs can be kept out of the fridge for up to six months as well as Misoprostil tabs.

Syringes, cannulas, needles and IV fluids and lines are all in the bottom compartment.

Even have suture packs and needles for doing perineal repairs is thats the bleeding site.

We guess we've saved approx £75 by doing it this way rather than buying a pre-made kit and also makes it quick to grab if we're asked to attend a Born-Before-Arrival.
