It can take a while to hear back from the VA. Right now not sure if they have a hiring freeze on due to possible budgets issues. It is not unheared of for it taking a month or so to get back to you. The Federal Government works slow.

Have you thought about starting out as a contractor or traveler? There is a VA in TX that is hiring 17 RNs for contract work in ICU, MedSurg and Pacu.. I have been getting hit up 2x day and they are saying expedited VetPro and Quip. There is also a facility in MN looking for ER and PACU. You might think about going that route, it is really hard to get hired off the streets and contractors are usually the first to be offered the perm jobs when they open.

Have you heard back from them yet? For me it took a total of 3 months and from what I know that is fast. Good luck to you.

I am in the process of trying to get hired by the VA. I have had one phone interview, not sure how it went. It wasn't what I expected. I also have gotten a couple emails related to other positions I applied for. They say "Eligible- referred to selecting official". One of the letters has a rating assigned. My rating is 94, I'm no sure what this means. This process is so different then any other hiring process I've gone through.

From what I understand, the system rates applicants and depending on the spots available or how many people they would like to interview, they will interview the top "whatever" to call for interviews. So basically you want to be as high on the list as possible. I have yet to see any of my ratings but I also just recently interviewed and they said it would be about 2-3 weeks before they made notifications. When did you interview?

I have had two interviews this week both said they were planning to make a decision within about a week. They also said I will be notified even if I am not selected. I am finding the whole process frustrating. In the past I have always interviewed very well and usually come away with a job offer. After these interviews I have no idea how I did.

Don't give up though. It's really good that you were able to score two interviews! The first time I worked there as an LVN, it took 8 months for them to call me for an interview! I had already given up. My interview this week was equally difficult as you have expressed. I had to come up with examples on the spot and hope that I interpreted the question right without asking too many questions! I interviewed with a VA in Southern California. Which VA are you applying to? I just know that the waiting is killer. At least they have you a week time frame. I got 2-3 weeks!

I have applied to several different locations. I am planning to relocate so that allows me to broaden my search. The uncertainty is miserable. I talked to a recruiter when I started applying and she told me to just be persistent. So that is what I'm going to do. Keep me posted on how things go for you.

While in my LPN program I did my clinicals at the VA. After I graduated and passed my NCLEX....I applied to the VA 5 times. On my 5th attempt I got two interviews at two different clinical's within the VA. The clinic where I did my clinicals really wanted me and when I was there for my interview was told she had already sent my paper work to HR. From putting in that application till interview time was a month....then from interview till when I actually started work was five months.

Good things happen to those who wait. ^_^

I got a call today with a tenative job offer. Tenative until vetpro screening and physical are done. Keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes quickly and smoothly.

Sounds like you are in the green now! It still takes forever at this point it feels like. After I got my tenative offer in sept 2012 I didn't start working until dec 2012.
