  1. You could talk to a VA recruiter. They would be able to answer your question accurately. Good luck
  2. I don't work for the VA yet. I did just recently have a physical as part of the hiring process. The physical was very basic. I filled out a health history and went over it with the dr also a hearing test, vision tests ( near and far sight, color blindness, and depth perception). Basic neuro check, basic ROM, urine sample and blood work. Some require an EKG It took less then two hours total and everyone was extremely professional and nice.
  3. I PM'd you with details.
  4. I do have my BSN. Started out as ADN, then went back to school a few years ago. I think the fact that you are actively working towards BSN will weigh heavily in your favor against another ADN who is not. Focus on what you have to offer and your goals for the future. I get the impression that the VA wants nurses who value education and want to share what they know through mentoring and precepting
  5. I would call the hiring manager, or whomever interviewed you. Ask what they feel you could do to improve your interview performance and if they would consider you if you reapply. You may get constructive help. Worst they can say is no. Good luck and don't give up.
  6. I have only worked in civilian clinics/ hospitals. Experienced in sedation/ GI and infusion. Have always hung fluids. Fluids not only assist in delivering the meds, but reduce vein irritation. They also relieve possible dehydration, can help maintain hemodynamic and electrolyte balance and reduce problems such as nausea and decrease recovery room time. Not sure what the motivation would be for not hanging fluids. What is the reasoning behind this? Is there documentation/ research to support it? Someone has made this decision, can they support it?
  7. Try looking on USAJobs. Mostly VA jobs. The process can be lengthy, but, great opportunities. They have had a quite a few jobs in the bay area lately. You should also call a VA recruiter, if interested.
  8. The goal of education is learning! How do you expect to learn if you refuse to challenge yourself?
  9. I understand both sides of the vaccine issue. I received the flu vaccine yearly until I had a severe allergic reaction to it a few years ago. Now I get tired of being treated like I'm a bad nurse because I don't get the vaccine. I also don't feel like I should have to explain my reasons for declining the vaccine to everyone.
  10. I will be in California. I currently live east coast. I think my willingness to relocate opened up a lot of opportunities. Hope you hear something soon!
  11. I got the call from HR. I just have to complete the forms they sent and go for the physical and fingerprinting. They said it should take about 6-8 weeks to complete everything. :)
  12. I got a call today with a tenative job offer. Tenative until vetpro screening and physical are done. Keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes quickly and smoothly.
  13. I have applied to several different locations. I am planning to relocate so that allows me to broaden my search. The uncertainty is miserable. I talked to a recruiter when I started applying and she told me to just be persistent. So that is what I'm going to do. Keep me posted on how things go for you.
