I wanted to see what you all thought about this. My mom is a high ranked nurse in an occupational health department at a hospital, and she knows a lot of people around the hospital especially HR. She encouraged me to apply to a job at the hospital she works at. It is not a new grad program, but they are new grad friendly and pair new grads with a preceptor for a good amount of time. I guess with her connection I may at least get an interview.
I don't want it to be related to nepotism and my mom also would only want me to be hired if I was qualified and a good candidate but I also can't help but feel a little strange. I don't know. And I know the manager would only hire me if she thought I was qualified and would do well.
I don't even have an interview, but I just wanted to know what you all thought. Also I most likely wouldn't ever see my mom if I was hired because she works in a non bedside nursing related department and this job would be for nights.
What do you think of this? If offered a job in a similar circumstance like this would you take it? (Note: I know I am thinking ahead of myself and haven't even interviewed but wanted to ask what you all thought)
Thanks!

Go for it dear. That's the name of the game, Connection! I've been applying for an RN position for the past two months, and the only one that has called is the one I have connection in. I am most likely getting the job too. Why wait forever for one that might not come? You mentioned that you won't be in the same dept as your mum, so why not? Take it! It's your luck.

I would take it ASAP!! I wouldn't care if my mom worked at the same hospital. The struggle to get a hospital job as a new grad is hard. Mater of fact landing any job as a new grad is a struggle. I think you're thinking too much into it. You will be fine.

A connection is a connection is a connection. Where I work, the former President and CEO of the hospital had her daughter working there is a nurse.

Why not? People help their friends and family get jobs all the time, in all fields. Anyone who thinks differently hasn't been in the
real world. The hospital system I work at is a very large place, and I've already run into other employees with family or friend relations somewhere here. It's inevitable.

Don't knock nepotism! It is a tried & true method of recruitment... if you can't trust your Mom's recommendation, who could you trust?
Seriously, you would not be reporting to her so there is no conflict of interest. She may be helping you "get noticed" and hired, but there is nothing she could do to ensure that you actually perform well ... that's all on you!
Best wishes on your new job!

Even if nepotism gets you the job, your hard work and dedication will make you stand out as a nurse. The job market being what it is, who cares what gets you the job anyway! Go for it.

Looks like it's unanimous. Enjoy your new job and do great things! Congratulations!
Thank you everyone for all your replies! It really helps. And I really appreciate all the advice!
I haven't gotten the job or even interviewed yet but there is a very high possibility of getting interviewed and that alone is already a big help. Hopefully I get an interview and maybe this job soon! Thanks everyone for all the replies :)
