Are you guys talking about medicine for( after any transplant )so that it doesn't get rejected? I didn't know that you had to take it forever -it would still be worth it to me.Someone told me that they have been working on this for 20 years but are just now doing the actual transplant.
I'm guessing that they'd have to be. I wondered about that trade off too.

I heard that they have been doing islet cell transplants in Edmonton for awhile now, and that they're really not that uncommon.
I wouldn't want to take immunosupressants for the rest of my life. I would do this only if it was absolutely necessary.
Has anyone heard about the possible Diabetes cure? They transplant islet cells from a donors pancreas and into the diabetics liver. They did it on a teacher in Dallas, TX. She has been a diabetic since birth for 27 yrs. What a lovely thing. No more suffering ups and downs, and all the other stuff diabetes leads to. I have been a diabetic for 22 yrs and my husband gave me a research # to call about a month ago but I didn't. I have not heard the end of it - LOL. "It could have been for the transplant"!!!!!! No telling how much the cure will cost. !!!!Just wanted to share this.
The reseach programs have been going on over the past few years with this protocol. This is not new. There are actually about five centers also in the US. I believe that one is located in Boston.................
