Pomeroy College of Nursing

Published

Hello I have submitted an application to the Evening/Weekend RN program at Pomeroy College of Nursing in Syracuse, NY. I am wondering if anyone else has applied to the program. The program starts Spring 2017 (January) and is 18 months long. I can't wait to receive an admission decision. I look forward to hearing from graduates of the program, current students, and prospective candidates.

Hey, anybody out there waiting to hear back from Pomeroy College of Nursing for an invitation to participate in an interview and/or an acceptance/denial letter???

I submitted all documents on time and completed the entrance exam. The deadline was 9/30. Now, I am anxiously waiting to hear something from the school. I plan on attending one of the upcoming open houses.

I had my interview about 2 weeks after I took the Kaplan testing, and I just received my acceptance letter last week (!!!) which was about 2 weeks after the interview. I was pretty anxious the entire time while waiting, but it will happen. The status of my application hasn't changed at all on the SonisWeb application site, even though I have been accepted.

I'm sure you will hear back shortly. How did the testing go for you? I am also going to attend one of the upcoming events. I would like to check things out before orientation and classes in January.

Hey everyone ,

I also applied for the spring 2017 semester Evening / weekend track . I took my placement exam August 25th and just received a letter about an interview 10/8. I called to schedule the interview and I am waiting for a call back since I had to leave a message . So far from the people I have been talking to , they got an interview and a couple weeks later they got an acceptance letter !

Hi Hg16! I have read on some of the other forums that unless you really screw things up, that the interview is just a formality. Interestingly, I also took my placement exam on 08/25! Have you attended any of the open houses? I wanted to go to the one yesterday but wasn't able to, and will probably be going to the one in November. I really liked the computer lab that the testing took place in, and the classrooms seem pretty nice as well.

I have not gone to any open houses all though I feel like it would be a good idea just to become familiarized with the school . I also thought the computer lab was very nice . Did you already have an interview and receive an acceptance letter? Funny we both took the test on the same date !

I did! The Kaplan was the last piece of the puzzle for me, so once I had completed that, I had everything else in and ready to go. I interviewed about 2 weeks later and then about two weeks after that (last wednesday) I got my acceptance letter. I also applied to St. Joes, but I don't expect I'll hear anything from them until much later. I think I will still put the deposit down on Crouse. I have gotten such a good feeling from there, but whenever I talk to St. Joes, it is just not the same. Plus, I wasn't in love with the facilities at Joes. Honestly, the only thing I like better about them is their schedule.

Are you working at all or will you work during school? I am going to drop to part time and see how it goes.

Congratulations ! How exciting ! I am just waiting for the call back to schedule my interview . I think they're out due to Columbus Day being Monday . I also wish their schedule was like st joes .. from what I hear you have to attend everyday of the week , Monday through Friday . I wonder if this is really the case ?

I am in the same boat as you (old timer starting new if you call 31 old :) ) .. I actually worked in corrections about a year and a half ago and started taking online courses to finish up some pre-reqs but right now I am actually a stay at home mom for my 16 month old so that in itself is a job to find evening child care if classes are every night of the week .

Just out of curiosity, who did you interview with ? I keep hearing people get different staff throughout crouse .

Has anytime who took the 9/29 Kaplan entrance exam heard anything from the School? I haven't heard anything yet and my online application status hasn't changed. There was quite a bit of people in the 9/29 group who took the test. I would say at least 25 people. Im so anxious!

Hey ROCTJ,

I took mine August 25th and it took a whole month and then some days to get a letter inviting me for an interview . The letter said they are doing interviews until the 20th of this month so there is still time to receive a letter ! Keeping my fingers crossed for you . What did you score on your Kaplan ?

Hg16, I did horrible on the Kaplan. I was so nervous and anxious so while I have earned one degree already and I have a 3.86 GPA, if I remember correctly, I think I scored like 63% so I am kind of bummed out by that. I hope that I get a letter! I wonder why they wouldn't just e-mail or call people to schedule interviews. I'm wondering if they extended the timeline to do interviews since they extended the deadline to September 30 and scheduled the last exam for 9/29.

Being that I took the exam on 9/29, if you had to wait a whole month and some days, then maybe I still have a chance.

I wouldn't get completely discouraged . Did you do well on the math part at least? They take a ton of things into consideration. If I'm not mistaken, admissions goes by a points system. You get so many points for how you scored on the Kaplan, so many for pre-reqs you have completed, math courses, science courses, and what you do in the community such as medical jobs, volunteer , etc. If you don't have A&P I &II , chemistry , microbiology, English, and a psych class , those look really good when they are completed and out of the way . I'm not sure if they extended interviewes or not . All my letter said was interviews will be conducted until the 20th of October . Keep us posted if you hear anything ! Keep thinking positive !
