For those of us who have already taken boards, please answer a few questions that might help ease the minds of those who are still waiting to test or for results. I know reading as much as possible about other people's experience helped me feel a little bit better while I waited.
1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX?
2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course?
3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)?
4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting?
5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)?
6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX?
Good luck to those who are waiting and ++++ thoughts for those who are waiting on results!!

I took NCLex on Jan 30th....
1. I had 75 questions
2. I used Kaplan, didn't like it at first, I though it was tedious but the question trainers and qbank were invaluable because their questions were very similar in style to the actual Nclex questions. During my exam I was soooo grateful I took Kaplan because their strategy really helped me. I also enrolled in Saunders Complete Online Review for NCLEX. I felt their review of content was fantastic, very detailed. The course also had 10 unit exams with 100 questions each, a pretest, postest and a practice CAT exam...this was a real bargain for 50.00.
3. We had Hesi exit testing.
4. I had my results the next morning (it felt like I waited weeks though!)
5. I totally thought I bombed the test! The majority of my questions were sata. I had a few meds, 3 math problems, and about 10 priority questions. The sata's were killers!
6. this was my first time taking the test.
Good luck to everyone preparing for the exam. The best advice I can give is to either take the Kaplan Course or at least read their Nclex prep book because their strategy is really helpful (they also have questions and a practice CD with the book), use Saunders for content review, :pumpiron:and practice tons of questions!
1. how many questions did you take on nclex?
75
2. what study materials did you use? did you take a test review course?
i took most of the chapter tests in the saunders book and reviewed as i went. i learn better that way. (this was, oddly enough, before i'd even heard of suzanne's tip - i saw that for the first time today.) i also did the princeton review cd only and borrowed a friend's lippincott book - the one that's all questions. i also read the 3500 bullet points for nclex cover to cover - twice - while on flights to and from the uk. i didn't take a test review course.
with 20/20 hindsight, i thought the saunders questions on the cd were extremely easy and not very nclex-type. they were, however, good for reviewing material and getting stuff to stick in your head.
3. did your son offer any testing (eri, ati, hesi)?
we took eri tests for most of our classes. i scored well above the national average on all of them. what bit was when they made us take the comprehensive eri for graduation; while most of us scored well above the national average on the pre-rn at the start of the semester, a bunch of us (including me) failed the final test. it turned out that eri screwed up the scoring; when the tests were rescored, only three of my classmates didn't pass it. i put very little faith in eri, so i used none of their material to study by.
4. how long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting?
i took the test on wednesday morning at 0800 and got my results today around noon or so. i passed!
5. what were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)?
i was almost hyperventilating when i walked out of the testing center - literally. i had to sit in my car for about ten minutes before i felt safe to drive. i kept trying not to think about it, but of course that was impossible. i didn't know if i'd passed or failed! i went back to the hotel (i had to take it an hour and a half from my house) and got on allnurses immediately to see if more folks passed or failed with 75 questions. i was realizing that statistics said i passed, but i also knew you could still fail with 75.
my very first question was a prioritization question, and they didn't stop. i think no more than 15 questions on the test weren't prioritization, which includes the one drug calc i got. i got about 6-8 satas and maybe five drug questions, and my last several questions were "correctly understood the teaching" questions - and if memory serves me correctly, the drug questions were actually teaching questions.
6. was this your first attempt at nclex?
yes, and i was terrified the whole time and up until just a while ago!
i remember thinking that several of the questions were out of the princeton book, and a few of the others seemed familiar as well.
1. I looked at the question counter at 110 and it shut off a few q's later (unsure of "exact" number of q's). I was mortified when it went past 75 :throcomp:
2. I did the pearson vue/board of nursing online review question banks (nscbn), read the Kaplan test strategy book, Saunder's was the best - I used the review book and did q's on the CD-rom. It was torture :smilecoffeeIlovecof
3. Our school offered ERI. I did not attend the live review.
4. 48 very loooooong hours later :urgycld: .....I prayed and prayed :plsebeg:Time seemed to drag :anbd:
5. *** just happened here? I was dazed and confused :sstrs: about my "knowledge" of nursing after that test but 100% certain I failed
...I was depressed
......anxious & tearful
.....nauseated :barf01: ...... terrified and afraid of failing
6. YES! :yelclap: :thankya: I was shocked that I passed! :omy::jwdrp:
1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX? 75
2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course? I studied Saunders 3rd ed., a blue Kaplan book with CD, and the NCLEX 3500 CD. No review course since the last time I took one for the SAT's didn't help me much at all.
3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)? We did Hesi but there was no pressure to do well to graduate or anything.
4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting? I waited 48 hours from the start of my exam.
5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)? Before the test I felt like I'd be mad if it didn't shut off at 75. Midway through, I felt that maybe it wouldn't shut off at 75. I was numb when it actually did shut off. When I was done, I felt ambivalent bc I didn't think it was that hard and thought that meant I had done poor, but after reading this board about the type of questions people had from those who had passed, and realizing that the questions did get "harder" as I went, I was 80-90% sure I had passed.
6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX? yes :w00t:

1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX? 85, NCLEX-pn
2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course? Saunders and another book by "Marlene", I can't remember the name of the book (I just gave it away today!)
3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)? HESI, but you did not have to pass it to graduate. I did well and the test said I had an excellent chance of passing the NCLEX
4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting? I took my test on Friday and our BON is suppose to post the results within a few hours, but due to a storm and the BON closing early, I had to wait all weekend and I just got my results today.
5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)? Did I really do that bad that I FAILED after only 85 questions. I felt like I didn't know a thing that was on the test. My family, friends, and co-workers telling me that they knew I passed did not help one bit. It actually made it worse because I felt like I was an even bigger disappointment because they had so much faith in me!
6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX? Yes and I PASSED!!! :w00t:
Good luck to those who are waiting and ++++ thoughts for those who are waiting on results!!

A local RN educator held a week long session for me and 3 fellow nursing school graduates in which we covered review material and test taking tips. I also used the Kaplan book, the RN-NCLEX Review Guide: Top 10 Questions for Quick Review, the NCLEX-RN Notes with cd, and started but didnt make it very far through NCLEX Made Incredibly Easy.
3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)?
We did the HESI. I got a 940 the first time and 1040 the 2nd time.
4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting?
Still waiting but it's only an hour and a half after I finished the test.
5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)?
Shock. Numbness. I cried already twice... I did my best and that's all I can do but.. I hope it was enough. I honestly have no clue if I passed or failed. I hate this feeling.
