Polk state college Fall 2021

Polk state college fall 2021 applicants

Published

Hey guys!

My name is Chris. I wanted to start this thread because I am interested in applying for nursing school at Polk state college for the fall 2021 semester.Everyone feel free to drop your stats (pre. Req GPA, overall GPA, TEAS score, and total points).I’m currently sitting at a 70% on the TEAS but definitely looking into retaking it to score higher.  I look forward to hearing from everyone as time goes on! ?

Hi Chris! My name is Janice, I will be applying as well for the Fall 2021 nursing program at Polk. I currently have a 3.88 overall GPA and 3.86 prereq GPA. I’m currently taking Microbiology and A&P 2. So I’m hoping I get good grades this semester and do not bring down that GPA. I have yet to take the TEAS. I’m planning on my first attempt being in February. I’m definitely a bit worried about the TEAS. Good luck on applying. Hopefully we will be calling ourselves nursing students in the fall!

Hi guys!! I’m currently enrolled in an AA program at one of my local community colleges and I’ll graduate in May with all my pre-reqs completed. I believe I got accepted for general admission at Polk State because I received an email with my login, but I have to take the TEAS in June. My GPA is a 2.89 currently, but it’ll go up after this semester is complete. I’m looking forward to meeting all of you :)

Hi everyone,
I cannot believe that the application date is a month away! I'm applying for the genetic track. I took my TEAS today and got an 86%. The points I will be applying with should be around 119.5 if I calculated correctly. After this semester I will be done with the prerequisites and the corequisites (MCB, HUN, DEP). If I do not get a spot for fall, I will try again for Spring. I hope it goes well for everyone!

Hi,

I will also be taking Microbiology, hun, and dep this Summer. I also take the TEAS for the first time this Saturday... any advice? I haven't really studied but I've done 3 practice tests in the mometrix book and am not really sure how the whole test is scored but I take the scores in each section of a practice test and average it and make that my total score.. Is this how the TEAS is officially scored?

Also, I had two questions that I was wondering you guys could maybe answer. How is your pre-req GPA calculated if you are taking a pre-req for polk during the term when you plan to apply? Secondly, do you guys know if the nursing program is only for their main campus, or can you apply to Lakeland, as I live in zephyrhills haha

Hopefully will meet you guys soon!! Thanks for any advice ?

Hi Ashely!

If you are already a student at Polk State. You can check your prerequisite GPA by logging into passport. Click Records, then click on Display Interactive Degree Audit, from there go to local program and press the dropdown to see the list of programs and then click on A.S Nursing – Generic or A.S Nursing Transition (whichever one you plan on applying to) and then press degree shop, this will show you all the courses required to apply or need in the program. Then scroll down all the way to where it says “*** Enrolled/Graduation Summary *** Current Enrollment” and the prerequisite GPA should be beside the row where it says “AS PGM GPA”. On the website, it says “Currently, for the generic option classes are on the Winter Haven campus for Nursing 1 and Nursing 3 and on the Lakeland campus for Nursing 2 and Nursing 4.  Classes for the transition option are on the Lakeland campus.” So semesters 1 and 3 will be at the Winter haven campus and semesters 2 and 4 will be at the Lakeland campus.

I used the Mometrix book to study and watched science with Susana on Youtube to study for the TEAS. The Math was a lot easier than the problems in the mometrix book. I just took the average of the sections right now and got an 86.3 but on the actual exam, I got an 86%. If you do take the average of the sections on the practice tests I would say you'd be close. Good luck on your TEAS!

Hi my name is Tia!

I am applying for the nursing program at Polk this fall 2021 (generic). My overall GPA is 3.6 and my pre-req GPA is 3.4. I have taken my TEAS twice doing better the first time with a 75.3 and 73.3 the second time. With this my overall composite score is a 110. I don’t feel that’s super competitive but I am having a really hard time getting that TEAS score up. I have tried mometrix, both ATI TEAS practice assessments, online videos, Anki note cards, but the TEAS science section surprises me with something new each time...and I only have one more time to take it before the application period. I did better on the science section from the first time, but alll my other sections went down. I’m convinced I am not a good test taker. Any advice??

I am also planning to apply to the PHSC fall 2021 program, however, I was wondering if anyone knew if it is OK to be still taking a prerequisite (Microbiology and the lab component) during the Summer term while applying for fall admittance. I have checked their webpage and looked for other allnurses PHSC fall hopefuls postings to ask but haven't seen one created yet. I am also waiting for an email back from the admissions office but have yet to receive. Does anyone know this information? Is anyone else applying to PHSC also?

ALSO thank you @futureRN1015 I've received a good score. Also noticed that we are taking the same prereq's this Summer.. where are you taking them I am at phsc.. we could be in the same classes??

Hi Ashley,

I will actually be done after this semester, I’m currently taking them at Polk State.
I wish I could give you information about PSHC but I have not looked into that program only because it would be too far, but I hope you can figure that out.

You can be taking micro and still apply. Microbiology isn't a "prerequisite" to the program. So it's not required to take before admittance. Although good that you are getting it out of the way.

Good luck to everyone applying! I'm still waiting to take my TEAS. I'm going to register for next week.

Just took the TEAS.
Overall GPA:3.91

prereq GPA:3.9

TEAS score 82.7

If I calculated correctly this puts me at 121? Hoping this is good enough to get in ??

I'm currently at a 3.63 overall GPA but after this term ends it'll prob go down a few.. but I currently have a 4.0 prereq GPA but am taking hun this Summer term. My TEAS score is an 82%, I also already have an associates degree.

so that's about 122 points?? I am really excited and can't wait to meet everyone. BTW, has anyone done that BLS certification thing yet?
