Pocket Computer users

My husband just got me a pocket computer (PDA) as a gift for me passing the boards...Does anyone know if this gadget is allowed to be used on the nursing units? If it is, can anyone recommend what software would be useful as a reference to be used while at work? (ie: Medical dictionary software, Medsurg notes)

Of course you can use it. Where I work, almost every single nurse has one, as well as every physician. I would be lost without mine.

I hope that you got more than that for all of the hard work that you put in.:)

Oh, that's good to hear...I actullay saw some nurses where I did my clinicals who were using this hand held computer device called "PDA"...Now, I have one and I'd like to know where I can buy the software that will be helpful while at work which ones do you recommend..the ones that I will be using most of the time...thanks.

Trust me when I say you will find a PDA as a lifesaver on the floor.

Its so much easier to quick look up a drug by typing it its first few letters then to go find the drug book and look it up.

our school had actually gotten us a deal with our PDAS and programs, and all of our programs came from http://www.skyscape.com

I recommend the Davis Drug Guide, and maybe a medical dictionary.

you can download a trial version of the program (although most of the items on the program wont work), but this way you can see what each program will give you. Skyscape has a ton of programs..it should suit your needs.

I also have archimedes, which is a medical calculator and I use that as well.

And above all, congrats on passing boards! :nurse:
