  1. Hello, What are the role of your Charge Nurse, Registered Nurse (Staff), and PCT in your facility? I am a new grad and I have an interview with one of the Doctors in a Dialysis Center in my town. It will be a 3-day 12 hour shift (0430-1730 MWF). This is ideal for me since I have 2 little kids at home ( and a husband ) and I'd like to have my weekends with them. They offer me $24.00/hour (because I am a new grad with no experience). It is a training facility, and they said I will be in training for 6 months before they can let me off the unit (State law???)..It's a 30-chair facility with 3 licensed nurses ( 1 charge nurse, 2 staff RN's ) and PCT's. I just wnt to know that if I accept the offer that I am not in for a major stress. By the way, I currently have a position being held for me at a hospital (telemetry unit) pending my NCLEX-RN result (which I passed but I have not informed my DON because I'm still not sure which one I would get...Dialysis or Telemetry). In the tele unit, it's a 3-day 12 hour shift too but nights (1900-0700) with rotating weekends. I will be responsible for 8 patients per shift (the pay is a bit higher due to night differential $29.15/hr)...I'd like to ask your opinion...I can't decide!
  2. Hello, First of all congrats on your upcoming baby I didn't use kaplan during my review although a friend of mine let me borrow hers ( I gave it back to her na eh). Throughout my review, I only used the Saunder's CD ( would look at the book when I wasn't familiar with a certain topic) all in all I practiced closed to 6000 questions prior to sitting in for the exam. Tip ko sa iyo? Saty focus and set your goals and syempre pray. Try not to memorize things, understand them especially when your practicing the questions. Understand the rationale behind both right and wrong choices. Huwag kang magmamadali sa pagsagot, intindihin mong mabuti ang tanong. Safety, prevention, and prioritizations are the major issues in the NCLEX-RN. Know what can be delegated to CNA's, LVN's, and RN floaters. Good luck to you and try not to overwhelm yourself with different study materials kase the more na mako confuse ka. Were you educated here in the US or sa atin sa Pilipinas? Thanks for the greetings and for asking my advise:wink2:
  3. Salamat...salamat!:yelclap:
  4. Hi, Thank you for replying back. Can you tell me the difference between a dialysis nurse a dialysis tech? What is the difference between their responsibilities. I know for sure us RN's provide and administer medications. Yesterday I received the call from the diaslysis center ( in my answering machine) but I have not return the call because I wasn't sure what to ask them and what they will ask me. Any idea? Are the dialysis machines user friendly? he-he-he-he....How long do you think will take to get use to them and what is a good orientation period? Thank you soooo much....
  5. hello, I just recently passed the NLCEX-RN and my license came in the mail last week. Sometime last week, I have turned in my resume to a Dialysis Center close to home. Today, I received a call from the facility's manager and scheduled me for an interview with one of the Doctors in the facility. I do not have any experience besides nursing school but I am interested in working in a dialysis center because I am not really fond of bedside nursing and plus I have heard that in dialysis, you can work a 3 day 12 hour shift day shifts no nights which is what I want to do because I have 2 small children at home and I'd like to be home at the end of the day ( no night shifts ). I need help with preparing myself with my interview. Whast questions should I ask the employer/doctor and what do they normally look for in an applicant? What do RN's do in a dialysis center? Are the machines intimidating? What is the typical nurse-patient ratio? I'd like to get as much information before I go in for my interview just incase they want to hire me on the spot. Your feedback is much appreciated...Thank you!
  6. Hello, Kababayans! Although I did not obtain my nursing education in the Philippines, I am still very proud to say I AM A FILIPINO NURSE! I just graduated from NY last May and just recently passed the NCLEX-RN. I'm so tickled to find this forum specially made for Filipino Nurses. Hoorayyy to all of us! And welcome!
  7. congratulations, rn!: :yelclap:  :bowingpur
  8. Hi, personally, I didn't use the NCSBN learning ext...I used the saunders CD all throughout my review (I passed by the way)..Although, I was thinking of subscribing to the 3-week review coz one of my friends who subscribed to it passed the board....Goodluck to you!
  9. you are included in my prayers....don't forget to pray before, during and after the exam...when you are answering the questions, do not rush...understand the question and choices...stay calm, focus, and take breaks whenever you need it! goodluck! let us know how it was:)
  10. Oh, yeah..It was heavenly feeling..I got my license in the mail yesterday and I showed it to my family and friends.....I could see how proud they were of me.
  11. Thank you...thank you...thank you...It was such a relief! Yeah, I need to change my ID/name but I don't know how...Any ideas???
  12. Oh, that's good to hear...I actullay saw some nurses where I did my clinicals who were using this hand held computer device called "PDA"...Now, I have one and I'd like to know where I can buy the software that will be helpful while at work which ones do you recommend..the ones that I will be using most of the time...thanks.
  13. My husband just got me a pocket computer (PDA) as a gift for me passing the boards...Does anyone know if this gadget is allowed to be used on the nursing units? If it is, can anyone recommend what software would be useful as a reference to be used while at work? (ie: Medical dictionary software, Medsurg notes)
  14. hello, I took mine in CA...Took it last Saturday (Nov. 26th), my name appeared on the CA BON website Monday morning (Nov. 28th). I guess this is quick for CA...I'm just glad that I don't have to wait long unlike when I took it the first time (July...received Failure notification in the mail Aug. 15th)...I guess it all depends on what State you have applied for and how fast the processing is..Good luck to you!
  15. You will...You will....Trust in yourself and in the Lord........
