PMHNP Walden U & Regis College

I am in the process of applying to Psych NP programs and am between Regis College & Walden University. At the moment I don’t have much choice other than to do online and these two programs are pretty popular. Anyone heard of anything(good or bad) about either? I’ve read a few reviews, but most were old. I realize online will be extremely difficult and I know I’d be responsible for finding my own preceptors..just wondering if anyone has heard anything else. Thank you!

EDITED to say that it doesn’t have to be info on the psych track specifically, just their online NP programs in general. ?

Check out US News and world report rankings of online Masters and DNP programs. I work with someone at Regis and they like it ok, but it is somewhat expensive at around $800.00/hr. My school USI is only $400. Also many schools are now requiring that a % of hours be with a PMHNP rather than psychiatrist. This can be a challenge in certain parts of the country. I know a nurse that almost had to drop a course because she found out about this requirement “at the last minute.” I’m also a fan of Frontier and if you complete the PMHNP there, you can add DNP in like 14 extra months which is a useful attribute.

I would try Eastern or Northern Kentucky University’s. They are both around 660 credit hour and entirely online. I have read some reviews on here about EKU and doesn’t seem to bad. However, not finding much about NKU which I believe their program is relatively new. Walden is for-profit and expensive and Regis is over 1k a credit hour.

That’s awesome, congrats! After looking at several, I ended up between Walden and Regis. I chose Regis and found out I got accepted on Friday. I know it’s an expensive program, but Regis is local for me and I felt more comfortable going with a school I was already familiar with. Good luck with your program! :)

Hi VelmaTXRN, how are you liking the online format at Walden, are you able to work and still manage to have assignments completed on time? I'll be starting in Jan!

Oh congrats! TSU, as in TX State? For which program? I’m sorta hoping to hear back from a few other schools too since I read so much negative opinions on Walden —I want to be as marketable as possible for a job when I’m done. Which program are you starting?? Super excited for you!

Yes, the PMHNP program at Texas State University. So far I’ve enjoyed the first semester.

Did you have to "Identify a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner role model/mentor" on your personal statement essay of the application? I'm worried my application will be denied because I don't have a mentor yet. I appreciate any suggestions, thank you so much. Glad to hear the program is going well for you!!

Yes, that was a requirement.
