My question is for Psych NPs. If you could do it again would you go the NP route or go through med school and become a psychiatrist? I have an undergrad in psych and a nursing degree so the most obvious path would be PMHNP. However, with the bar being so low for getting into NP school I fear that this area will easily become over saturated as so many other areas have become. I would also think that having an MD opens more doors. Do you feel like you have ample opportunities or do you feel like you'd have more in you were a psychiatrist? Thanks for you input!

"I will leave the MD for people thinking they want to take an easy route to make good money"
This sentence doesn't mean that I think it is easy and therefore it wasn't an insult at all. I avoided it in my early 20s because I thought it was gonna be too hard for me. Now do you get it? I mean you would have to be outta your mind or just ignorant to think that it is. As far as education goes in this country, there are no programs that are longer than medical school. I worked in a hospital for 8 years, have many close friends that are DOs and considered it again before going to grad school. I appreciate you 2 trying to make me look dumb/ignorant/insulting, but it won't stick! ?
Hmmm. I don't think anyone in their right mind THINKS becoming an MD is easy.

That is your subjective opinion and if you think that then you must live in a small bubble. I have met many people that go into professions for the wrong reasons and because they think it will make them happy or not require sacrifices.
Furthermore, we expect people to know what they want to do for careers at 18. LOL... you think all 18 years olds know what they should do the rest of their lives? And the commitment that medicine takes? You live in a world where everyone knows what they should do and will be totally happy with their choices before their executive function matures. Do we live on the same planet? Hell if I was more mature when I was 18 I would be a MD/DO and I have to accept the choices I made and live with them. And hope maybe in the future I can improve the future generations.
Your mindset will hold nurse practitioners back, regardless if we abolish diploma mills. I see you have 2 years as an MSN. Don't tell me you are under two years as an RN because if that's true I have more than double your time in this field... and you can keep your credibility card.

"I will leave the MD for people thinking they want to take an easy route to make good money" - those were your words and they speak for themselves.

Backpedaling much

OK guess us plus the physician tux here all don’t understand English. Guess we should have spent more time writing DNP papers instead of learning real medicine.
You said med school was easy and never did it and won’t fess up to it now. I think you are just salty you aren’t a physician
sorry oh great doctor nurse
You all partook in the diploma mill MSN path so what do I expect? Human nature is to focus on one narrow idea, confirm your own bias, and miss the forest for the trees. Most people do it and that is OK. The fact you try to act like I'm backpedaling is silly, considering I never changed what I said. It is still a true statement. Many go to school thinking it will be easy! That was the intent and all that matters. Just as you picked MSN since you want an easy program. You really should be ashamed you don't want to spend the extra time or further the profession! I can understand wanting to be lazy and not better yourself. I'm just glad it's not me!
No one but me finds it funny that a DO is on "ALLNURSES?" It's hilarious you all come out with your pitchforks in 2 seconds. Typical nursing, almost as sad as the above.
I said like 10 times already I wish I would have done MD, but it is too late now. Not worth the time or money for me. Just because you have a MSN/DO doesn't mean you have a high level of reading comprehension or much of a brain. Med school is mostly memorization, that is the lowest level of learning.

I am shocked that an "elite DNP" student is unable to engage in a reasoned debate with people that hold dissenting opinions. Engaging in personal attacks on people with different opinions is an indication that one's own argument is very weak.
I went to Johns Hopkins, BTW, hardly a diploma mill. My prior undergraduate and graduate studies were at Yale and UCLA.
Comments about med school being easy are ridiculous. Since I was a nerd, many of my friends going back to high school became doctors. I also considered becoming a doctor. While we felt this would provide a nice living, none of us thought it would be easy. I have yet to meet any future or current doctors who thought med school will be, or was, easy.

I don’t think a nurse is qualified to say med school is the lowest level of learning. But if it helps you sleep at night go for it. You should tell your supervising physician this too. Just to ensure he knows how you really feel.

I didn't make that up just as I didn't make up people think med school or being a doctor is easy path to riches; it comes from the 11 years I have at this now working in a hospital and knowing many students, docs n nurses. You should try educating yourself before making baseless accusations!
I sleep like a baby at night because I don't pretend to be qualified to state a fact many people before me have identified - where clearly you simply lack knowledge (again might I add the lowest level of learning).
Also, would there be videos on Youtube of people warning others about medical school if there weren't these type of people that didn't have the right impression of the challenge or what it entails?

Pretty sure that both doctors and nurses use all levels of blooms to get the job done. Especially those who do research. And why did you send me an ad video for a tutoring company.
long story short if you think medical school is so easy put your money where your mouth is and go do it. Otherwise you are just another washed out Old nurse with a thorn in his side towards physicians.
And TBH nursing school was more just memorization then medical school so who’s the fool now lmao. You have to be able to understand science for medicine. Not so much nursing.
