Plz help with Bumex, amio, dopamine, cardizem calculations!

Published

Hi, I'm a new grad and would like to know the answers to some calculations to know if I am doing them right.

1. Cardizem ordered at 15mg/hr. Concentration 100mg/100ml of 0.9 NS. What do I run the pump at?

2. Integrilin orders 2mcg/kg/min (pt is 60kg). What rate will the pump be set at?

3. Bumex to be administered at 1mg/hr. Concentration 12.5mg in a 50ml bag. Pump set at?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Seriously, with the eating their young! What purpose does your arrogance serve, other than to stroke your

own egos? Where is the compassion? Have you all been shamed and spoken to as children in an adult learning

situation, feeling the need to lash out at someone? Feeling the need to show them a thing or two?

For what it's worth, my opinion is that this site is perfectly representative of personal, therefore professional

burnout and toxicity.

Perhaps; however, the tools to figure these questions out exist. Why not have the OP at least try, then we can help them out if they are having problems or struggling with a specific concept? At this point, we have no idea how to help the Op because they simply asked us to answer A, B, C and so on.

Ok...forgive me for jumping the gun on these...I was thinking I'd post before even working the problems out thinking it would take a while to get responses, so I posted and then worked on about 10 problems and realized the ones I posted are silly easy and I didn't actually need help. The cardizem one, LOL Ok I deserved getting ragged on for that, the integrilin one we actually have a dose/wt based chart to use...my intentions were sincere in that I was going to work them out, then come back to see if my answers matched. Anyway..thanks to those who did not "eat" me. I will think twice before asking more dumb questions. We honestly did not do some of these type of calculations in nursing school!

When my 7th grade daughter figures out the first answer just be staring at the question says to me, "Geez mom the ratio is 1:1...the question is 15...and she is in college?" I have an issue with it.

If my OWN 12-year-old Algebra (yes she is in Algebra) student can do this, WHY CAN'T the OP??????

The exact reason why we don't give the information first.

You didn't even try.--the exact reason why I--ME--will not give answers.

Now...if you want to have a discussion on Kierkegaard or Keynesian Economics...I am in....

Perhaps you should read where the OP didn't even try.

Don't judge us....I have kids and understand that the least amount of energy put forward, is the more energy reserved for other "fun" stuff.....I know how they think i.e..."the path of least resistance."......

Me thinks YOU need to apologize--for what it's worth, of course....something tells me you are easily, let's just say this politely,..duped?

Edit to add: Lori, some of us snarky, and a smart-****. Some of us are highly intelligent. I happen to fall into the highly intelligent, smart *** category.

Oh Yay! It's button pushing time! Woohoo!

Thanks for your opinion Jopacurn..however no one will be receiving an apology from me regarding this post. Not you, not anyone.

You seem to be personally attacking me, yet I was not personally attacking you. I was blown away by the general tone of the responses, is all, and I thought I'd share my thoughts and show support to the OP. Seems like the shoe I threw out fit you the best?

Perhaps it is appropriate for you to challenge your daughter, perhaps it is appropriate for her teacher to challenge your daughter. Perhaps the OP lacked confidence, and it is obvious that she is being gracious to all of the posters.

Also, jopacurn, Who is us? What do you mean, don't judge "us"? This is not a them against me situation. I am not judging anyone, I am sharing my view of reactions to a circumstance.

Also, it is clear that you highly regard education, and are quite educated yourself. That's fantastic! Yet, having said this, what do Kierkegaard or Keynesian Economics have to do with the price of eggs in New Jersey, and why are you "in" with it? Why was that important?

Truth is, it doesn't matter. As long as the OP knows that no questions are stupid :)

Yeah, I am snarky and smart orificed too, and intelligent, and a counselor for a practice which is dedicated to nurses who experience the toxities of burnout. I am passionate about people supporting each other. Kindness along with a gentle and compassionate spirit go a helluva long way, even if you are telling someone that their breath and pits stink. I felt for the OP, I really did - I really do. Kids, yeah..I have 3. And two grandchildren, so I get it. I know how they roll. Easily duped..really? Let's just agree to disagree.

OP, go to the student general discussion forum, look at the first thread in the green area, it's the math thread. You seem at a total loss!? If you are a working nurse, you should probably not go back to work till you are confident in this.

No personal attacks here. But it seems that this "feel good--let's be supportive" thing doesn't mean a person can't question an OP who is asking FOR answers without even answering them first.

This is typical here.

I can tell you by "us" the ones who are not speaking up because they feel the same way I do. This asking for answers is typical. One student...then multiply by the thousands...

Confidence? Did you see how the OP stated, "I didn't even try?" How about ,"I tried this and this is the answer I got...what do you all think?" Is that so hard?????

As for Kierkegaard and Keynesian economics. I love those topics. If you have questions about them, I love answering...that's what I meant...but that's not on this forum so I won't mention them again. Simple mathematics is simple mathematics and asking other people to do your work--that's just lazy.

You always speak of limits. I set limits on students' who don't do their work--whether nursing or not.

As for questions being stupid..no one insinuated they were stupid, just that we KNOW SHE DIDN'T do the work. Did you see that post she made?

There is no eating young. There is no "NOT" helping out. It's let's see what you know first and let's work it through TOGETHER. I do NOT spoon feed...and perhaps YOU should tell YOUR students the same thing. As for burnt out, not me...I've been doing CLINICAL work for 18 years and adore it. Mixing my clinicals with the furthering of my education will only make me a better nurse and person.

And as for teaching students, I can tell you...I am a no nonsense teacher, perhaps I've mention before I am a logical, extremely pragmatic individual--and the "let's all be happy and supportive" is a good thing to a point. As an adult learner (I believe that is what most people are or we suppose they are) I am someone you can learn a lot from...if you do your part. Don't do your part?...There are consequences...

You are right..no one insinuated that the OP was stupid. She expressed herself that she would try not to ask any more stupid questions, (paraphrased). I should have clarified that.

You bet your sweet bippy I speak of limits..and boundaries. You are employing yours, I am employing mine. It just seems as though there are ways to communicate with more positive results, instead of an OP apologizing and suggesting that her question was stupid.

I am not a working nurse yet...just moved and passed boards but no job yet, just reviewing some material a friend who is working gave me and originally at first glance thought I would need help since many were ICU drugs that I had no experience with (and had the questions but no answers to them). Being impatient, I thought it might take a while to get responses and know if I had done them correctly, so I asked for answers up front, not realizing this was unacceptable. Once I worked the problems, I realized the ones I posted were super easy and didn't require help. I can see how it would look like a student looking for answers to homework, but seriously, I am not stupid enough to think that simply getting answers to questions, without the knowledge of actually knowing HOW to do them, would be of any benefit to me. Thank you though for the support!
