I've applied for Fall 2016 in PLU (it's December 2015 now). I got all my paperwork in mid November. Now, it's waiting until June to find out. I'm really crossing my fingers! I completed all my prereqs at TCC with a 3.9GPA (including cadaver lab) this past spring. I'm hoping to follow your and my journey through this process. I hear they choose 80 of about 600 applicants...
I called PLU SON yesterday, as I, like many of you, have been diligently stalking my mail man for that darn letter. Just so you know, the LAST of all the letters were all mailed out on Monday June 20th (?), so not to fear! You will have an answer, either way, very very soon.
I received my rejection letter from PLU today. A hearty congratulations to everyone who was accepted! The rest of this post contains mixed elements of the following: congratulations, pity (for myself and my cat, who is dealing with the aftermath), half formed jokes (they are fully formed but only half are funny), and unsolicited advice that may only be partially, if at all, helpful. Read at your own discretion.
I have been an LPN for 2 years, and all of my coursework has been within the past 5 years. All of my pre-reqs are complete, except for chem 131, which I am taking this fall. I had 4 letters of rec, 3 of which were work experience related- 2 letters from MDs, 1 from an ARNP, and 1 from an LPN instructor. I put my heart and soul into that application, and I submitted it back in October. I was told at the info session that the pool of applicants for LPNs is very small, and out of that pool there is even a smaller number of qualified LPNS, and was highly encouraged to apply because I was "more likely than not" to get in. Imagine my disappointment as I opened my paper thin rejection envelope. Honestly, I knew what the letter said before I tore it open.
This is more than a pity party (although believe me, there were plenty of tears before my good friend Vino stopped by to cheer me up). This is to encourage and remind others who may also not have gotten into the program that it is OK- things are going to be OK. Not getting accepted does not define you as a student, does NOT define your future, and does not dictate who you are as a person. I was feeling pretty crummy about myself, and the fact that I am already an LPN only helped to add salt to my wounds. However, this does not mean that I am a bad or incompetent nurse, and it doesn't mean that I won't succeed elsewhere.
Keep your head(s) high! For those of you that did it- awesome! Congrats. Truly, I tip my hat to you and wish I could meet you to shake your hands and pour you a drink of my now half empty bottle of wine. And to those who didn't make it, while I still wish I could share my bottle of wine, please just don't be too discouraged. Stay driven, stay focused, and good things will come :)
XOXOXO
Hi everyone! I have not previously posted on here, but I am going to be in the fall 2016 cohort. I received an email last week talking about upcoming preparations for the start of fall quarter, and in it they let us know that if anyone was planning on attending somewhere else, to let them know ASAP so that they could pull from the waitlist. I say all of this so that you guys know that there is still a possibility! Good luck to those of you still waiting, and I look forward to meeting those that have been accepted next month:)
Hi guys! I have been waiting for someone to start a 2016-17 feed on this site. I have also been waitlisted for Spring cohort. I see one other person is in the same boat. The wait is nerve racking! Praying everyday for acceptance. Please keep me posted on any updates you hear or if you are accepted. I wish everyone luck!
