Is anyone applying to the Pacific Lutheran University ELMSN program with me this year? There is a post last year about this program, so I figured I should start one for summer 2017!
I applied pretty early, like October I think. I still have not actually had the interview scheduled, just a email saying someone will schedule it in the next week. I have worked in community health the last two years and did Americorps. I graduated in 2013 with my BS in general science from Seattle U. PM if you want my GPA/GRE scores, I feel weird posting it on here to be honest!
did anyone else get a interview invite? does PLU normally interview?
Hello!
I got an interview invite a couple weeks ago, and then a scheduling one tonight--which I have not responded to yet. I didn't see anywhere from the previous years that they did interviews for the ELMSN, so I was a tiny bit surprised especially since there was no mention of it on their website. It made sense to me though. I felt like the NursingCAS application was a little short, and thought there might be an interview.
For some stats regarding my application process: I turned my whole application in by Nov 30th, and got the invite email Jan 9th, saying I'd be contacted for scheduling a phone interview which I got tonight.
As for my stats as a student: I graduated from UW awhile ago with a BA in Psych and a BS in Biology: Physiology. I did not earn the most competitive GPA for application to graduate education. Since it was older than the 5 year cut off, I had to retake, and in some cases take, some prereqs. Those made me much more competitive. If you want to know what GRE/GPA I applied with, you can message me since I also feel odd posting it. In the intervening years, I worked in pathology/medical labs in centers in the area, volunteered in ED/med surg departments, and then also volunteered abroad with a medical missions/ship group, took an NAC course but for financial reasons chose to stay in pathology...and pretty much tried to learn about as many aspects of US medicine/healthcare as a whole before deciding that nursing was for me.
Good luck everyone!!
@communityhealthfan I was contacted last night for my availability to interview this week, and as stated I got my first email January 9th. According to that email I was supposed to have been contacted by the middle of last week to schedule the interview. I actually had to double check with them, and obviously it was resolved. So it looks like they might have already started interviewing?
As for the second part of your question, I have no idea when they will send out final decisions after this. I actually didn't think to ask how many people had applied, or when the final decisions would be sent out. My only correspondence so far has been over email. I'm just more focused on getting an interview scheduled at the moment!
How about you? Congrats on a getting an interview!
Thanks so much for the response!
I received my "heads up" email just a few days ago. The email they sent didn't include any additional information regarding when I would interview but I will post once I hear from them again.
I called admissions on Friday to check in and express continued interest. The person I spoke with reported that over 100 people had applied for 24 spots. She was not sure how many people had been invited to interview but said that they had already sent out some letters declining admissions...so it was a good sign to have received the invite to interview. She also let me know that the interview would be pretty standard - why nursing, what future career goals, etc. I forgot to ask when I could expect to hear back from them or about when final decisions would be made.
Thanks again for your response and GOOD LUCK on your interview. Please stay in touch with us! This is a tough wait and it is helpful to have you all within these forums. :-)

Just curious when did you apply? Do you mind sharing your stats and or background? I submitted my application pretty early and am super nervous...Thank you!
