Is anyone applying to the Pacific Lutheran University ELMSN program with me this year? There is a post last year about this program, so I figured I should start one for summer 2017!
Current ELMSN student here. I also have graduate fellowship and have access to denied applicants from a looooooooong times ago (3+ years ago). I was archiving these old applications and come across people who either were denied, accepted but then withdrew or chose another school, or just never finished their application. Let me know if you have any questions. I don't have a ton of information but I do have a general idea of how they rate you.
Hi MSNhopeful! I was wondering if you remembered roughly when PLU sent you any financial info. My husband and I are trying to set a budget for the next two years and anxiously awaiting that info to pop up in Banner.
Hi Kocono,
I believe during orientation they can give you a more detailed look at the program costs. It looks like the total cost over 2 years is about $70,000. You can go to their website to find out more here Program Cost | Master of Science in Nursing | Pacific Lutheran University
As for a term to term breakdown it varies depending on credit load. First year is $725/credit hour and each term is laid out like this (assuming there are no changes):
Summer: 15 credits
Fall: 14 credits
J-term: 4 credits (no financial aid)
Spring: 14 credits
Summer: 8 credits
I didn't apply for any scholarships so I'm not too sure about that, but for financial aid loans and such, I was notified on bannerweb around mid-April. You can contact the financial aid office if you're concerned, but usually it will be enough to cover the full 2 years and then some extra as well if you take the full amount offered.
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly and with so much detail!
I did see the cost breakdown on the website, it's super helpful. I was just trying to ballpark how much we should try to pay monthly to offset the interest on the loans. I'll keep an eye out for mid-April, I think it's easier to wait when you have an approximate date.

Hi bsnhopefulmj,
With BSNs I'm not entirely sure to be honest, since I work in the grad admissions office. I would imagine there is a sort of rubric they use since there has to be objectivity in order to find out who is the most competitive. I think high school GPA would be important if it's a young student fresh out of high school. If you're not a first time bachelor student or you have experiences within healthcare they will consider that as well.
As for weeding out, there were quite a handful of students who chose different schools such as SU, but I don't know the exact number. Some students don't even complete or follow up with their application. As for ELMs, minimum criteria in all areas is usually required to even be considered in the slightest. If you don't meet minimum criteria they do look at other areas of your application, but from what I've reviewed, it looks like bachelor's degree GPA is actually quite important. Now that they are doing interviews, I'm not sure how that will affect the point system they use. Hope that helps! Good luck with everything!
