pls help. bout NCLEX

hello! im new here.:nuke: i took the dec.2-3, 2006 local board here in philippines. still waiting for the result. i have lots of question. to start with, how do i prioritize the things to do, the ff.: best NCLEX review center, apply NCLEX on my own, if that so how?, or the review center can assist me, or should i find a job first after getting my license (to have experience already).

i hope someone can help me. id really be very thankful.

Welcome to allnurses. You should know first in which US State you want to work then check the website of that Board of Nursing for the specific requirements, because each state has its own set of requirements. You can apply on your own. No need to ask for help from the review centers or agencies.

You can also prepare for nclex by doing self-review. Saunders Comprehensive Review (3rd edition) and Kaplan are highly recommended in this forum. Suzanne, one of the moderators here has tips on how to effectively use the Saunders book. A lot of people passed using just her review strategy. It's free. Kaplan online review is also very good for critical thinking, which is needed in answering nclex style q's.

IMO, it's better to take all the foreign exams first before getting a job. That way, it's easier to review because everything is still fresh in your mind.

And to throw in a word of caution:

Any review center in the Philippines that promises to help you get a job when you finish, is operating as a recruiter, and that is illegal for them to do there without having an actual recruiter license. And that also means that they are more interested in selling you to the highest bidder and could care less about their actual training for you.

The above is illegal per the Philippine Govt.

although you are waiting for the result, i am sure you are happy to get that over with. now, ask yourself, what do you want to do next? do you want to work abroad? or at home? ( philippines). if you wish to work there before going abroad, that's not a bad idea. it is always good to have a work experience ( and maybe earn money for yourself). if you choose to work abroad, ask yourself: where do i want to work abroad?, if you decide to work in the united states, then you should start reviewing for you nclex-rn exam. some people go to a review centers, and some don't just do a self-review. since there are many negative issues about local review centers in the philippines, you can choose to review on your own as well, but it takes a lot of hardwork, and patience. review centers cost money, so you have to do a research before registering into one. many people, (like myself and other posters here), applied for nclexrn on their own, you just have to figure which state you are going to work, then you can apply for licensure there.each state is different by the way, pls. do read the requirements very carefully. it's a lengthy process, but internet is always a good source of infos. if you read some old post here, you can see some answers. you can also send a private messages to the moderators because they knew a lot of infos. about nclexrn. for now, that's all i can say, otherwise, enjoy the holidays!!! take a breather!!:icon_redface: :icon_razz: :holly3:

I was wondering why it is discouraged to apply for the NCLEX to the California BON. That is where I plan to apply but am having second thoughts because of what I've read from some of the replies in other threads. Is it really difficult to become an RN in California?

More to do with time it takes to process application and that they will not issue you with a hard license until you provide a SSN which you won't get until you can prove you are legally in the US

Ok then! Thanks so much! So in Vermont, you have to be an RN first before applying for the VT NCLEX right? Do you know of any other state that processes papers as fast as Vermont even if you don't have a local license?

It is not difficult to be an RN in CA, but it is much eaiser to endorse.

They take on average four to six months before you will get approval to sit for the NCLEX exam, then if you do not have a SSN#, you will be waiting for snail mail to get your results, you will not get a license issued until you can give them a SSN#. Out of US, you will wait four weeks to get the results, and about two 1/2 weeks if in the US.

And then if you decide to work someplace else, you are unable to endorse, as there is no license to endorse.

That is it in a nutshell.
