Nope, it is still 4 years. although there are some news (hearsay, you know how it is here) that folks from UST are lobbying to make it 5.

good intentions, but... oh well, glad im an RN already

Some schools in Cebu are implementing the 5 yr Nursing this coming school year too. Im 2nd course and hoping to enroll this june.

Its crazy to think to make it 5 years. Just another money making venture. As a BSN in my time, we have three years ( 2nd, 3rd and 4th) clinicals and that is 24 hours per week. Do they want to add more? And yet they have fast track programs before that produce BSN in two years time for second coursers with less time in clinicals.

It actually used to be five years there. And then was shortened to the four year program. Most of the nurses that I work with went thru the five year program. You were also required to do so many deliveries back then, a certain number in the hospital and a certain number at home.

There's used to be a pre nursing course then before you go into the BSN program way back. And it totaled 5 years. You have to take all the science subjects before you go into clinicals as I was told. When they changed to the 4 year program, the science classes were inserted in the 1st and 2nd year of the program.

No,the programs were five years. The four years that you see, plus they were required to work in rural medicine for six months and do the deliveries in hospitals as wel as so many in rural homes. This was for all of the programs.....guess that I am dating myself but we were just speaking of this at work today...........and this is what all of them did, did not matter on the school and there were only universities at that time. They were considered five year programs, nothing to do with pre-requisites or anything like that.

I will be enrolling this coming June in a University in the Philippines and Im really damn scared.Although I was an honor student during my school days,I've been out of School for almost 8 years,work Overseas as a Caregiver in a home..Being just 24 years old,I really dont see any future for me in my current job.

I've been searching the net for as much information as possibe,and all seems to have the same views about Nursing..Expensive,Cracking brains,hectic,stressfull..etc.." But I really want to be an RN,not only that everyones says its a promising career but I just have this heart of doing so..If you would offer some tips about Nursing,I am much of a grateful..

i heared that CEU nursing students now will finish the course in 5 years. unless you are now graduating or 3rd year or i thing it only applies for those students who just entered the course last year

And there is a noticeable difference in the training that was five years, the nurses that come out of those were much more confident.

That is why I cannot figure out why some want to take a shortcut and that there were programs that finished in less than a year, and the nurses that came out of many of those could not even give an injection or spike an IV bag or bottle.

The more training = more confidence in caring for patients. It cannot hurt you at all.

Certainly true, it is written in the history of DOH book during the th1980's. Nursing programs was only 4 yrs but students were required to work in a rural community for sometime for their license to be issued by the PRC. So that's another year.

1 year wouldn't hurt, I wish there would be more cases required. More anatomy classes and more exposure. Nursing nowadays is just money for others, paying more to take the shorter route to success when they don't even know what they are doing.
