Challenges in Finding Nursing Jobs in California
I am trying to move to California next year, currently in Maryland (9 years experience in the UK), and been seeing lots of jobs posted online but have not applied yet. Were your recent experience in the US? And are they hospital-based? Most of the jobs I am looking at are bedside as I am currently working in a Tele unit.

Feed back about Lanting College
I am also a graduate of Lanting. Are you a second courser? Then Lanting have a special program for second coursers where you can take nursing for 2-3 years. I can recommend Lanting since I made it and pass the local nursing board exams. But dont depend too much on the school since making it and suceeding is still in your hands.

Would like to work in TX
I see, so I can also be issued a license without presenting work experience since I'm a new grad. I will verify that info to the Texas BON so that I can start my application as soon as possible. Thanks a lot Itzallgood for that information!!!

Would like to work in TX
Really, so I need not have the 2-year experience during initial application to Texas BON... only during issuance of license that I need to present the work experience or FEN. I'll verify that info to the Texas BON. Thanks a lot guys!!!

Would like to work in TX
Thanks Silverdragon for the information. My question: where is the FENS conducted? what agency gives this course? So I can go with my application for Texas but I still need to meet the 2 year work experience to get a license. Are there other states that gives hard license and doesnt require work experience for it? I dont know if I can find work as nurse here in the Philippines in the current situation. I've been reading about Vermont and New Mexico but most of the post are outdated from years back and they may have updated their requirements. Thanks a lot!!!:nuke:

Would like to work in TX
I'm in the same situation as your brother. I just graduated last march, had my local boards and now Im planning to start my NCLEX application for Texas since I would want to be with my sister who is working there. But when I checked out the Texas BON website, it says that foreign educated nurses needs to have 2 years work experience. Its very difficult to have work experience now since there are a lot of graduates. Im thinking of going throung New Mexico since they have compact license with Texas but I still need to check out their requirements. Hope someone who already underwent through the Texas licensure can help us. Thanks!!!

Review Centers In Cebu
rockandrollrn Sorry po, im not yet eligible to send a private msg. Regarding your inquiries with Labagnoy, I paid a total of 12T for the critical and final coaching. I wasn't able to attend the comprehensive(5T) since I was still graduating then. The entire review was from March 20 to June 4. I think they are starting the review for the November exams on August 18. The good thing with Labagnoy is that they give back merits for deserving reviewees like cash prizes, trips, etc. I was fortunate to make it to one of the top scorers during our final critical exams and we were given an all expense-paid trip to Baguio, where the main branch is, to attend the final coaching there It was a great experience definitely for me and a definite motivation to do my best for the boards.:wink2:

No problem po. Another tip, much better if he start reviewing as early as he is ready to prevent cramming when the exams is getting nearer.....I started reviewing seriously on my own since december and Im sure glad I did. Wishing the best for your brother. :)

Review Centers In Cebu
Nothing beats the study and preparation one have already done while still in school. Review centers can only polish what you've learned. So when I reviewed for the June boards which was just held last Saturday and Sunday, I treated it as just that, a review of what I have already learned. I reviewed at Labagnoy review center in Cebu and I commend them for their program which covers a great deal of what one needs to focus on for the NLE and what I like about our review is that we were given longer time/schedule which started last March pa and that's everyday till june, at the same fee or even lower as other review centers. I guess their program is effective since they produce topnotchers in last november's boards including the top 1 from baguio. Our reviewers taught us to focus on the subjects which one have weaknesses since one never knows what will come out in the actual board exam. And indeed come the boards I felt prepared and confident already. So my tip is that review centers can only do so much, much of the work is in the students will and determination to pass. God bless!

Comments on Lanting
Thanks malmd06. No, my first course is BS ComSci, w/c is not an allied science course. I also inquired with PWU-Edsa since they have a special two-year, trimester program for 2nd courser. But it is very expensive and quite fast-paced(only 13 weeks per sem), I think I need a more relax program so I can really sink myself in with everything I need to learn with my new 'career'. I have already enrolled with Lanting and I'll be starting by this summer; according to them it will take me 2 1/2 years to finish the BSN program. Thanks to everyone here in Allnurses who help me greatly.

Hi Amiga, I saw this list of Nursing Schools' average board passing grade from 2000-2004 and Lanting had 50% average only. But last year I think they have like 65% average, not so sure, but Lanting have been producing students who made it as board topnotchers. I inquired at Lanting and the tuition fee for this summer+first sem is 28K. The succeding semester will be about 32K up since you'll be starting duties. They have a special class for second coursers (twice a week only this summer) and also night classes for those who are working. I'm referring both to the schedule and accreditation of subjects (all your previous subjects that are credited and you don't need to take unnecessary subjects). Amiga, it's really your decision if you think that the sacrifice you make in taking up Nursing is worth it. I came all the way from the Visayas just to study in Manila because most schools in my city, although very good schools, take you 3 1/2 to 4 years of study. Hope that helps, and can you post the link of CHED accredited nursing schools? I've been looking for it. Thanks.

Thanks Silverclouds for clearing all doubts in my head. It really helps to hear words of encouragement from previous students who've been there. I do hope everything goes well in my apllication in Lanting, probably by next week. Choco_overload, I understand where you're getting at. I think no school is perfect and I even think that there are schools which have more modern facilities or better teaching methods than Lanting. I was even dissapointed by the low passing average of Lanting but then I see that they maybe just a little bit lax in accepting students(who may not be serious in studying). But the board topnothcers from that school also prove that if only those students take their studies seriously, they can pass it with flying colors. I just chose Lating bec it suits what I'm looking for-good program for 2nd courser, cheap tuition and quality education. Wish the best for all of you nurses and nurse-t0-be. Peace!

Thanks for all ur replies. I believe too that one shouldn't be dependent on the school, the biggest factor for success as a good nurses is in the individual to strive hard in learning as much as he can. Though it would also help if the school have a good standard of education to begin with. And as far as I know, Lanting dont fall below standard since it's been proven to produce nurses who is accepted here and abroad. Silvercloud, upon looking for links if Lanting has a CHEd license, I chance upon this site http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/topofthehour.aspx?StoryId=24419. It says that Lanting - Quezon City is one of the schools ordered by Sen. Drilon to be closed for having zero passing rate in licensure exams! Although it didn't indicate if the Nursing license exam is included. I'm really confused. Since you've been a student there, can you enlightened me on this.

Comments on Lanting
Hi to everyone. I'm 25 yrs old and a would-be 2nd courser nursing student. Like other second coursers, it took me a while of careful consideration in looking for a good nursing school to invest my time and money. Finally I've settled for Dr. Carlos Lanting College and hopefully I'll start by this summer. I've heard mostly good comments about Lanting but the info I found on this link http://www.ofwguide.com/article_item.php?articleid=161 is a bit disturbing. It says Lanting is one of the schools given closure notice due to poor performance and failure to comply with the requirements set by the CHED. Though it's a bit dated and Lanting is still in operation (as far as I know), I'd still like anybody to comment on this. I'm excited to start this nursing career path and I'm just hoping there will be no hitches on the way. Any comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated, especially from previous students of Lanting. Thanks!!
