Hi,

Please, don't move this post.

It's been at the New Mexico board for nearly a week, and zero replies.

Can ANYONE tell me ANYTHING about the hospital in Santa Fe? St. Vincent Medical Center.

Also, what did you think of Santa Fe?

Please, someone reply.....thanks :coollook:

New Mexico is my home state, grew up in Albuquerque, which is about 50mi south of Santa Fe. Finally got outta there about 1 1/2 yrs ago....lots of family still there however. Now I am back and forth every few months. I could tell you just about anything you want to know about NM and it's towns, etc. Are you thinking about going as a traveler? If so, most travelers like NM and Santa Fe, especially. If you are thinking about moving there, that is a whole different story. I would not reccomend that until you have actually gone there and checked it out first hand. St Vincent's is OK, not too bad, not a "big city" hospital.

Albuquerque is the largest city in NM, about 500,000 people. Santa Fe is much smaller than Albuquerque and years, years ago became known as a trendy, artsy kind of community. It is rich w/history and culture. However it has gotten to be very expensive to live there....and remember NM does not pay very well. Santa Fe is part of the (IMO) best part of NM....northern NM. Beautiful....especially going up into areas like Chama and Taos. I'm not sure where you would live, if not in Santa Fe....you wouldn't want to travel back and forth from Alb every day, although I know people who do it. Espanola is probably the town you are thinking of....and, no you do not want to be there (heroin capital of the world is it's nickname).

If you want to PM me, I can answer specific questions for you...the area, the people, culture, economy(poor). Again, fine for a travel assignment....not so much to actually try and move and live there.

Hope this helps!

I have no information on NM, but some of the situations described in the posts sound so very sad. It is a lovely state, too bad "real" people cannot afford to live in some of the nicer areas. I have heard the same thing about AZ. Good luck on finding just the right spot.

Howdy!

I don't actually live in Santa Fe, but I live about 75 miles west of Albuquerque. Personally, I don't understand the fascination with Santa Fe. I guess if one is wealthy and a snob, then hey....that's a great place to be! :uhoh3: My husband and I have taken family members to Santa Fe to visit, and every time something unpleasant happened and ruined the trip for us. For example, in the town plaza in old town we were literally surrounded by at least five or six different people who were openly dealing drugs and doing business with customers. All while the police were present, I might add. :uhoh3: Once my mother-in-law was treated horribly in a store she went into, they were very rude and wouldn't sell her anything, probably assuming she couldn't afford to pay the prices (their mistake, she could). So in my opinion Santa Fe is an obscenely expensive, snobby, unfriendly town that is highly overrated. But, I LOVE the rest of New Mexico! I am a transplant, and I wouldn't live anywhere else. It is such a beautiful state with so many interesting cultures and experiences that you simply cannot get anywhere else. I've lived a lot of places and traveled extensively, and nothing compares to it because it is so unique. Oh, and I would stay away from Espanola, too. High crime factor and lots of gangs and drugs. :coollook:

Well.....the PMs I have gotten about Santa Fe are NOT favorable! I didn't know drugs were so bad there - I also didn't know the school system was so bad.......................... :o
