Hi,

I'm currently a Male freshman at St Johns University, In Queens village,Ny. My current gpa is a crummy little 2.14, i took general chem and got a C+,Bio 1000 C-,algebra and trig B, and Sociology D, in my first semester. Im currently taking Bio stats, 2nd part of gen chem, bio 2000, and Eng. I took college now courses in High school ( english comp A, and Public speaking B) and those credits transferred over to St johns. i had sat scorse of 550 Reading,560 Math,500 Writing.Im now in my second half of my first year and im dying to transfer out, i want to get into a nursing program,im leaning towards the private schools because i know they'll be less competitive than the cuny/suny schools. I'm looking for a school where i can apply to and get directly accepted and start following the nursing curriculum so that i can get my Rn in nursing. I'm looking to get my bachelors degree, and then enter a gradute program so that i can becase a CRNA. I want to stay in Ny, and i'd rather commute than dorm however dorming isn't completely out of the quesiton. Tuition is not a limiting factor, i just really want to fin d aschool where i can apply to their nursing program and if i get accepted i wont have to deal with those pre req courses, before i actaully get in.I want to transfer out in time for the up coming fall semester. i have already applied to LIU and NYIT. can anyone please give me some advice or their opinions so that i can figure out what is the best thing to do?

Thank you all in advance : )

You might want to check the schools in your area to see what the pre-reqs are for admission. In my neck of the woods, just about every program required at least 5-8 credits in anatomy, 4 credits Microbiology, developmental psych, chemistry, college algebra to name a few. If you don't have them now, you will have to go back and finish them before you get accepted in. I'm not sure what you have already done between your high school work and college, but usually the schools are pretty specific.

You seem to be shooting pretty high, looking at getting into a grad program, after finishing up a BSN. And if you are looking for less competitive schools, keep in mind that will effect your chances getting into one of those advanced programs.

Since you asked for advice, I'm going to give you some. For starters, tell us why you want to go into nursing. Its a pretty demanding profession, lots of rewards, but it takes a special person to want to do it, and I haven't seen you say why you want to do it. It will also take better grades than you have been getting so you will need to up the ante there. And to get into any program, you are going to have to have all the pre-reqs done with whatever minimum grade the school requires. In my case it was a C, but other schools are requiring a B. And with the current economy, most programs are getting plenty of applicants.

If you are serious about it, focus on getting through a program and passing the nclex first. Whether its a a diploma program, associates or bachelors program doesn't matter, that will get you into the field and from there you can decide how high you want to go with it. Lots of folks re-think their plans for school after they have been going for several years. Nothing wrong with that, you have to regenerate your level of motivation.
