I'm an OB nurse. Most docs generally OK Sudafed and Tylenol, unless you have some allergy to it. Otherwise, try raw garlic (chop it up into pill size and swallow it without chewing is my best method) or miso soup, lots of rest, and plenty of fluids. In other words, eat well, rest, and take care of yourself. Good luck.
Stay away from the nose sprays!!! (The OTC kind) Your excess of estrogen prob ably has given you a really stuffy nose, and the rebound effect from the nose sprays will be awful. The steroid sprays are safe in pregnancy--Vanconase, etc. But you know, the rest, fluids, chicken soup thing is the only thing that works for a cold--just be sure thats what it is, and not the "pregnancy stuffies"
I think chicken soup, hot honey lemon tea, and lots of rest ehlps every time. I also believe that since your doc recommends the Sudafed and Tylenol, using them will relieve your worst symptoms, but would go easy on them and only use them if you are totally miserable or unable to sleep because of the cold symptoms.
And congratulations and good luck with your pregnancy! :chuckle
i'm on my 9th week and also suffered from a cold a couple of days ago...i'm not comfortable in drinking medicines while at this condition so i tried the good old fashioned remedies...rest and hot liquid...it worked...my thing is if your not comfortable with the medicine and your cold is not that serious, then don't do it...so what if you have a runny nose?...pregnancy is an excuse by itself...congratulations.. =)

Hi everyone,
I'm seven weeks pregnant, I have a cold and of course morning sickness. This is my first pregnancy. I talked to my OB-GYN nurse about my cold and she said that the only med I can take right now is ES Tylenol and Sudafed cold and allergy. But when read the Sudafed label "if you are pregnantor nursing a baby, seek the advice of a health profession before using this product". It is sound scary. I haven't taken it yet but I wonder have you ever take this med while you are pregnannt? If not what did you do to relieve cold?
Thanks a bunch.
