Please Help: I need a good topic for a research paper for a Science and Technology ..

I am in a class called Communications and the Lierature of Science and Technology. I need to do a research paper in my field of nursing that has to do with science and technology. Please help me with ideas. I have to start this research asap as it is due in 2 weeks and I also have t prepare a speech for it to give in 2 weeks as well. Thanks!!

The usefulness of high electricity when the power goes off. That sounds interesting. I see you all put lol faces on the posts. is it a joke? I thought there was a power generator when the power goes out. Sorry, it may be over my head. :)

hmmmm, come to think of it, maybe zenman wasn't kidding....something just hit me hysterically when i read that....one time we DID lose power with NO backup generator. i had a pt. with a trach, on continuous 02...the o2 concentrator was ok but suctioning her???? i was literally taking a 60cc syringe and aspirating out secretions...

What about the advances in computer/electronic charting over paper charts? :p Maybe pros and cons of both. Maybe do a survey on nurses who have done it both ways and the associated problems with each? Ways to do corrections, HIPPA laws related to charts. Good luck!!

Our hospital power went out one late winter afternoon when I worked in KS. While the backup power source worked, it only worked at specific outlets. So it couldn't be used for all patients...and things like the Pyxis weren't hooked into it. I understand it was really chaotic in ER, surgery, and intensive care.

It took several hours to restore full power (which I believe was a backup generator). I was on the second floor interviewing a woman with a double leg amputation in a wheelchair...of course the elevators weren't working either. It gets dark early in winter; we moved out of the office and into the hall when the afternoon light diminished too much for us to see. And just sat by the elevators waiting for the power to come up.

While I have never really worried about fires in the hospital, I did that time because I could have never gotten her down the stairs by myself.

What about something on telehealth? It combines communication with science and technology and nursing.
