please ppl help me out as i am really confused...

i have following question...

1. any book u might wanna reccomend me for hesi; how is over all hesi test?

2. my 2nd question is abt clinical rotations. how many hours are required for clinicals.

q.no3: since in 2nd year of nursing curricula there are only 19 sch. can you take them all in one semester

with course overload permission kind of thing. as i have known, that one can take maximum 18 per semester.

q.no.4: i am alil confused as what classes to go for this this fall 2009.should i go for classes that are for nursing curricula such as a and p 2, micriobiology and so on.i know that it would reduce a whole lot of course work, but at the sametime, i fear what if i have to wait till spring of 2010 to get into nursing programme.

so would you recommend me to go for other core courses such history, govt; till i actually get to be part of the nuring programs.

q. no. 5: in all my nursing pre-reqs, i got b grades, do you think are those good enough to get thruough the admission starting fall of 2009.?

thanks

please ppl help me out as i am really confused...

i have following question...

1. any book u might wanna reccomend me for hesi; how is over all hesi test? at cy fair they had a hesi review book on hold at the library. maybe hcc has something similar. it is basic math and reading comprehension. i don't know if acc does a & p or not.

2. my 2nd question is abt clinical rotations. how many hours are required for clinicals. this is mandated by the texas bon, not the school. we did clinicals at least once a week for 8 hours. some semesters we were there twice a week.

q.no3: since in 2nd year of nursing curricula there are only 19 sch. can you take them all in one semester

with course overload permission kind of thing. as i have known, that one can take maximum 18 per semester. we couldn't at cy fair...i don't know about acc. at cy fair take things in sequence and the school tells you what to take and when to take it.

q.no.4: i am alil confused as what classes to go for this this fall 2009.should i go for classes that are for nursing curricula such as a and p 2, micriobiology and so on.i know that it would reduce a whole lot of course work, but at the sametime, i fear what if i have to wait till spring of 2010 to get into nursing programme.

so would you recommend me to go for other core courses such history, govt; till i actually get to be part of the nuring programs. you need to take all your pre reqs before you apply if you want to get in. it is very competitive and most students entering nursing classes have already taken all the pre reqs. also, the nursing classes are difficult enough on their own without adding classes like micro & a & p ii

q. no. 5: in all my nursing pre-reqs, i got b grades, do you think are those good enough to get thruough the admission starting fall of 2009.? i don't know if b's are good enough for hcc. i think most people that got in at cy fair had a's in all their pre reqs.

thanks

goo dluck

In my class for A n P 1, english 1301, and very few in psych, barely few got A grades... these are the pre-reqs for nursing at HCC. Are you talking abt lone start college?...a n p 2, micro they arent the pre-reqs, just the integrated nursing curriculum... SO I m very confused what to take for spring of 2009...

thanks

first of all...simmer donna!!

second, i am in the hccs nursing program. i would recommend taking the a&p (1 & 2), micro, and other courses that are embedded in the nursing program before the nursing program. rule of thumb, if it doesn't have rnsg prefix in the nursing list, take it now before you regret it later. believe me, you'll be glad you did. there are some kids that didn't take micro before starting and are now paying the price. not only will you get those courses out of the way but you'll have a better understanding of what the heck you're trying to study.

third, unless you know for a fact that you'll be in a bsn program right after hccs, don't get too much involved with history, gov't, etc. this is why......these courses have a time frame on them, if you take them now and you start nursing school in 2010, once you have completed the program, 4 years have past. most courses are valid for 5 years. so, chances are that you might end up retaking them again for your bsn program. but not sure, might want to talk to a bsn counselor or whatnot.

fourth, they have the nursing program scheduled in a specific manner for a reason. there is a reason why you don't take pedi with fundamentals or ob/gyn with psych. don't mess with them. don't even ask.

last, although a bit off the path, i studied with a gre review book to help me with my hesi test.

one more thing, if you're making straight b's and this concerned about a nursing program that you're not even enrolled in, then you have a good chance of passing it. however, 24 hours of studying and a steady diet of energy drinks is not worth it. if anything it'll just give you cardiac complications. just passing along some info....

thx for replying; Lemme ask you this question..I have taken a n p1, and as of hesi, it seems fairly easy, do i still need to study? Apparently your answer shows Bs are good enough to get me through the admission process? Is that correct.

Do u really think that I would actuallly start nursing program from fall of 2009?

Well, if you take A&P II, Micro, and Psych over Spring-09 and then Pharmacology over the summer, then yes, you have a chance of starting nursing school in Fall-09. This is NOT a matter if you can pass these courses. Its a matter of getting them out of your way before nursing school starts. For example, if you refuse to listen to me and not take Micro before starting nursing school, your first semester will be Fundamentals, Clinical, and Micro. Now, you have to study almost 3-4 chapters a week, type up a pre-clinical, see your patient at the hospital, maybe type up a final care plan, or even study for an exam. All that before you get a chance to focus on your Micro homework. We already had a classmate have to retake Fundamentals because of this issue. So I am telling right now, just take the above mentioned courses over the spring semester, apply for nursing school, and take pharmacology over the summer and you'll get accepted!

are B's good enough to get me through the process? I heard most student are straight As.

how many hours are clinicals required?

Where do you park your vehicle when you go to coleman?

Lets say if I take all of the above course, its like getting through a whole semester of 14 SCH and be able to finish the whole program alil early?

I know that you have to take pharmacology math test b4 june 1 of the year that one actually want to get into nursing program. Is it like I have to wait for the following year, even though, I take this pharma class in summer?

thanks

I don't know where you get your info son. You take the Pharm math exam in June IF you have taken Pharmacology at another school or IF you took Pharmacology during the Spring semester. If you plan on starting in Fall of 2009, you take Pharmacology in the Summer-09, take the math exam (must make at least a 90% on that exam), and THEN you can start the program in the Fall. MY GPA was a 2.9. I am IN the nursing program, why are still questioning me? You are not finishing the program early, you're just getting the courses out of your way so you can focus on the nursing program. These courses are NO joke. You don't just show up Monday, read a couple chapters, and think you're ready for the Exam that entails up to 6-9 chapters. In the first 8 weeks of the first semester, you are going to class 4 days a week, 4 hours a day. You are not only studying from the Fundamentals text book, but you're also studying from the Skills book because you will be tested on your ability to not only be competent in your theory but also in your practice. After the first 8 weeks, you are then rushed off to your clinicals where you are tested again for you ability to combine both theory and practice. You STILL go to lectures on Mondays, depending on your schedules, you might do a pre-clinical on Tuesday (which takes up to 8 hours to complete if you want to do a great care plan), go to clinical on Wednesday to prove to your instructor that you know your theory, go again on Thursday to prove to you instructor that you know your practice. You then spend the weekend studying for your lecture and completing your care plan and start all over the next week. At the end of the semester, your clinical instructor will test you on your skills by making you go through a practicum, you will take a final exam for Fundamentals, and you will also take a skills final exam. If you think you have the testicular fortitude to take your AnPII, Micro, and Psych while still going through the nursing program, then by all means, go on ahead. As far as i know, four of my classmates already failed the first semester. Thats four seats that opened for students that know what they're doing. Stop worrying about finishing early, it won't happen. As long as you stay focused and calm, you will be fine. Straight B's is good enough.

Thanks alot forr u continued help!

So basically, you have to go to coleman 3-4 days a week for the clinicals and lectures?

Where do you park your vehicle at Coleman!

How good is a chance for me to start my nursing from fall of 2009.

Did you read hesi test study guide?

What constitute the Maths Test, and when would I need to take that?

Also wonder, if you make Cs(Just curious) in courses (such as a n p 2, micro) other than pre-reqs, would it jeopardize your chances to get into nursing program in fall of 2009.

You can park across the street. Either you can pay $10/day or you can go on a contract with TMC parking for $65/Month.

You do have a good chance of starting in Fall of 2009. C's on pre-reqs are NOT good. C's on nursing courses is okay. Look at it this way, you want to get the best grades you can get to make your transcript look better for admission. Once you get accepted, the competition is over. From then on, your main focus is getting at least a C or better.

I am not the best person to ask about the HESI. I just showed up after a night of drinking.

The pharm math test is pretty much simple algebra with the use of the metric system. The trick is to know where the punch in the numbers, what end result are you searching for (eg, mL, mg, kg?), and making sure you write the proper answer in its proper unit. If you take pharm in Spring semester, you'll most likely take the math exam in April. If you take it in the summer, you will take the math exam around July/August.

Your lectures take usually 4 hours. Your clinicals usually take 6 hours per day. Thats not including the pre-clinical day that can take anywhere from 8-12hrs.

Thx for reply!

From your experience, HESI is easy enough to be qualified even if you dont study, RIGHT?

As of lectures, they are 4 hrs a week and then 3 days for clinicals rite

?

Does it matter? Either you want to be in nursing school or you dont....the schedule really shouldn't matter. You are asking questions that are way too trivial and really don't matter in the grand scheme of things. Also, the pp is right concerning having all your non nursing classes done before you enter into nursing school. You will NOT have time to study correctly for nursing classes and non nursing classes. Also, your grades will matter if you plan on getting into a BSN or MSN program later down the road.
