PLEASE HELP! HOUSTON COMMUNITY COLLAGE - ADN program

please ppl help me out as i am really confused...

i have following question...

1. any book u might wanna reccomend me for hesi; how is over all hesi test?

2. my 2nd question is abt clinical rotations. how many hours are required for clinicals.

q.no3: since in 2nd year of nursing curricula there are only 19 sch. can you take them all in one semester

with course overload permission kind of thing. as i have known, that one can take maximum 18 per semester.

q.no.4: i am alil confused as what classes to go for this this fall 2009.should i go for classes that are for nursing curricula such as a and p 2, micriobiology and so on.i know that it would reduce a whole lot of course work, but at the sametime, i fear what if i have to wait till spring of 2010 to get into nursing programme.

so would you recommend me to go for other core courses such history, govt; till i actually get to be part of the nuring programs.

q. no. 5: in all my nursing pre-reqs, i got b grades, do you think are those good enough to get thruough the admission starting fall of 2009.?

thanks

regards..

We are all trying help you out. I have the edge because I am in the program and have already dealt with the first semester. I am emphasizing the fact that you DO NOT take it lightly. Even my wife who went through the TWU BSN program admits that I am going thru more hell than she did (even though we have our share of hell). When I saw that I passed this semester and heard who didn't, it felt like I was more lucky than I should've deserved.

But hey, we have tried to give you the best advice we can give. I understand that you like to run a tight ship and want to expect the expected. So when you get that acceptance letter, ask yourself this, "isn't a basket a bit too flimsy to go to hell in?"

Texkid, i m so confused after having turned in the application for admission nursing school at HCC. (the hesi is gonna be held sometime in ferbruary).

They said that after doing my summer pharmacology class, I would have to wait for another semester to get into nursing programme as it wont be possible for nursing selection committee to review my application in 3 weeks to get started for fall of 2009. Is that really true..? Plz help...

You can take the Pharm class at Lee College in the spring 09 and be ready for the fall class at HCC or even Lee.

where would I need to go for my clinicals? and whats the procedure to get in LEE college...TEXKID.....DUDE i need ur assistance..........Plz come back..

Sorry, been fixing my fence and working on my car. I have to make the most of the next two weeks before school starts.

Anyway, I am not very familiar with Lee College. But if you can take pharmacology there, then run for it. After taking pharmacology at Lee, you can just take the math exam back at HCC or continue at Lee College.

The clinicals are assigned to you. One semester you may be at Ben Taub, the next may be at West Houston. You don't have the same hospital nor same clinical instructor back-to-back. You're going to have to talk to someone who has been at Lee College or talk to their admission yourself. Heck, you can probably look it up online. However, it would be more appropiate if you called or actually showed up to their office. It shows that you're really interested in enrolling in their program. Believe me, they'll remember a friendly face before they remember a number on a piece of paper.

texkid..honestly i m interested only at HCC..no other school even if I apply at lee i would have to wait..for summer or may be fall of 2009 for phama alone(which cud be even more time consuming).....HCC is convenient very near to me and its so cheap to me (coz i m in district). AND as of pharmacology exam I wanted to take pharma tech exam..but an other councillorr(now retrd from program) stopped me from doing that...as he told me if i do pharma in summer at HCC, i have very good chance to start of fall of 2009.. so i m really very confused now..plz tell me what to do..

It is true. If you sit for the Pharm tech lic. you can take the math test at HCC. As Far as Lee - there were still spots avail for Spr.09 and it transfers anywhere. You could potentially et into HCC in the Fall. At the rate you are going there is NO program that requires Pharmacology that could get you in any faster than Fall 09. Go online Lee.edu and the info is there. The course number is the same as HCC.

We have clinicals in various places. The first semester is Methodist (Med Ctr., Bayshore and Methodist-San Jacinto) From there it varies. You have choices at lee regarding where you go and the day you wish. SOmetimes they fill up fast based on location or teacher but at least you have some say vs HCC!

The teachers are basically okay - at least they don't talk to you like you have a tail (like - oops I better not say what school! ;-).

Just know Pharm @ Lee is a NO JOKE class! It is hard and fast.

FYI! If you take Pharm @ Lee you will need to brush up on you math on your own to pass HCC's test.

Every nursing program has its own issues my suggestion is pray for guidance on where you SHOULD go and the pursue that school. I applied to only one school - one time and the rest is History.

Good Luck.

Hey "lilsporty11", I would do what Mission360 is trying to tell you. But then again, its all up to you. Grab a course NOW at Lee College and have a chance at starting nursing school in fall and either colleges or wait 'til summer and pray that you get in to HCC by Fall.

You either want to get into nursing or not. There are other students out that apply to multiple colleges, there students out there that are willing to drive across town to attend nursing school, and they all know that there aren't that many spots left and nursing school is very competitive to get in. So while you're moaning that you don't want to go to Lee College and you can't take pharm this Spring semester, there are already 100 kids or so that got head start and getting things done.

I thank you both 'texkid n mission' for ur cont'd support. Yes I m damn sure to be a nurse.

my question for mission is '' would lee college lemme take pharma with out having taken the hesi test? Dont lee college require it...? And for Texkid .....from what i understand..at hcc, it also has to do with your luck too..I hope the selection committee doesnt take my origin or religion in consideration?

Lee does not require the Hesi A2 as a prerequisite for admission to the nursing program or the college. They have an open enrollment policy but you need to apply to the college (general). If you are academically ready (if you have taken math of some sort or they will give you a test to determine your abilities) you can sign up for the course. You don't even need to talk to the Nursing office.

PS - No State funded institution can discriminate anyones race, origin or religion!

U URSELF IN NURSING PROGRAM..WOULD THAT BE POSSIBLE TO HAVE NURSING CLINICALS IN HOUSTON TMC. is it competitive like at HCC?

Thx

Regards..
