OMG!!! I just started my first CNA job today at a Med/Surg floor in a hospital, and I am so embarassed about my sweating. Please help me find a solution to this, I feel like crawling in a hole. It started fine, but 20 minutes into my shift, I was sweating, and bad. We weren't doing anything particularly hard, just vitals and I&O. But, I caught a glimpse of my backside in a mirror, and I was plastered with sweat from my back to my butt and even some on my legs. It's so horrible. I naturally sweat at the drop of a hat, but I didn't think it would show up so splendidly in scrubs. It was like that for about two hours, then we had a calm period, and I dried off. But as soon as we started moving again, back came the "wet" back and butt. I am so mortified right now because all of the patients and some of the staff were looking at me oddly all shift. The lady training me said she knows someone else who sweats as badly as I do and that she understands. However, it doesn't make me feel good to know that everytime I work, I will have an episode of sweat-butt. Is there anyone else experiencing this out there, and if so, have you found a solution? Please help me, I feel so awful. Thanks.
this is my first time posting, but i had to chime in on this one, since i'm a sweater too! i don't have it this bad, but i totally understand how it feels when i'm the only one sweating, when everyone else is dry!
there are these new shirts (and i believe shorts) that you can buy at places like wal-mart in the sporting clothing area that are made out of 'wick' material. it does exactly that-wicks that moisture from your body! my husband just loves his, and the shirts are so light in weight and actually they feel good on!
good luck!

Hi. I started using Drysol a few years ago, mostly because antiperspirants seemed to actually make me sweat more. I sweat too, I don't think it's as bad as you, however, but Drysol could definitely help. I'm pretty sure that you can apply drysol anywhere. It is a bit irritating to the skin, but heck, if it means I don't have to sweat and later start smelling bad, it's worth it. Just ask the doctor, I'm sure he could give you a Rx. Anyway, putting another layer between you and your scrubs might also be a good idea (though it might make you hotter....). I dunno, is there any hormonal reasons for this excessive sweatiness?? I'm afraid I dunno much about it.
Thanks,
nadj
Me & my daugher can really relate- STRESS sets my sprinklers off... BUT a product called -wick-a-way sports shirts found at sports stores or wal-mart, etc. Worn under your scrubs the wick away will help to cool and dry you fast and keep your scrubs dryer- hopefully YOU cooler. They are very lite wt and we don't feel like we even have them on- cool.
How much body surface area can you safely use antiperspirant on? I assume you might have heat regulation problems if you stopped all your sweating.
I sweat heavily when under stress or any physical activity. On the ambulance I keep a towel handy. When I'm dancing I always make sure to where a cotton T shirt under my outer shirt. The cotton holds the water and my partner doesn't have to touch a dripping wet back.
Okay, I tried the antiperspirant on my back. Had a little success, but not as much as I wanted. The slider shorts I wore really seemed to help, though. They took away about 80% of the sweat visibility on my backside. I'm going to try the wick material, too. It will probably work a little better than the slider shorts. So, for now, I'll be wearing antiperspirant on my backside, slider shorts, and a cotton A-shirt under my scrubs. Sheesh!
ps- buy a 'lil' larger than so it'll be a lil-loose not too snug but not too loose- they feel really good on- like an OLD t-shirt and they pull the sweat away and dry super fast and cool ya down quick- good stuff... great for summet ball- games- that is actually how we came across them! Good Luck to you- and I hope you find what works best! ~jen Stay COOL!!!

I had a close friend who had this very problem, in nursing school his scrubs would be soaked within the first hour. What he ended up doing was applying antiperspirant to his back, chest, and inner thighs. NOT deoderant, antiperspirant because that chemically stops the sweating. He had no more problems after that, but did say that he was going through a lot of antiperspirant!!!
