OMG!!! I just started my first CNA job today at a Med/Surg floor in a hospital, and I am so embarassed about my sweating. Please help me find a solution to this, I feel like crawling in a hole. It started fine, but 20 minutes into my shift, I was sweating, and bad. We weren't doing anything particularly hard, just vitals and I&O. But, I caught a glimpse of my backside in a mirror, and I was plastered with sweat from my back to my butt and even some on my legs. It's so horrible. I naturally sweat at the drop of a hat, but I didn't think it would show up so splendidly in scrubs. It was like that for about two hours, then we had a calm period, and I dried off. But as soon as we started moving again, back came the "wet" back and butt. I am so mortified right now because all of the patients and some of the staff were looking at me oddly all shift. The lady training me said she knows someone else who sweats as badly as I do and that she understands. However, it doesn't make me feel good to know that everytime I work, I will have an episode of sweat-butt. Is there anyone else experiencing this out there, and if so, have you found a solution? Please help me, I feel so awful. Thanks.
oh thank heavens it isnt just me
Im a head sweater, doesnt matter what im doing or when im doing it i will drip I actually had a mentor make an appointment for me at occupational health to see what the problem could be. Unfortunately i know what is going to be said 'its all because you are overweight' which im dealing with.
That is a pretty serious procedure with many risks. They are cutting nerves in your throacic cavity. A last resort I guess. I opted away from this, but to each there own. I suffered from hyperhidrosis for 15 long years. I tried the drysol, didn't work. I tried the Iontophoresis (water/zaps you), too complicated. BP meds, sortof worked but gave me dry mouth and orthostatic hypotension that was too much to deal with. Now every 6 months I get botox injections 100% covered by my health insurance since it became an FDA approved treatment. This has changed my life seriously I never realized just how much it affected me and everything in my life until I was finally able to wear a tight cotton t-shirt and not sweat at all. I kept checking and realized how much I thought about it and how my entire wardrobe was black sleeveless tops in summer and black baggy tops in winter - because it hid the problem. with no sweating anywhere. Anyway, be dilegent get your thyroid checked, someone else mentioned drinking lots of water and exercise and I can say that this definetly helpeds some for me but the botox was the real saviour. Anyway, I hope you find something that will work for you like I did because you should not have to live in layers of clothes and constantly thinking about this. I know I did for too long.
I'm really surprised no one has hit this: Sympathectomy(http://www.umm.edu/thoracic/thoracic5a.html) , I've taken care of several patients who had such extreme sweating problems that they went this measure to stop it. And it is reported to work, and work well. Just another treatment option.

I am a 17 year old male... I have had this problem since I stopped taking my anxiety medication when I was 15 1/2 years old. It has really embarassed me and has stopped me from enrolling a CNA program. I want to get my CNA, because I need it to get into nursing school... plus it would be helpful to gain more experience in the medical field. It's just really embarassing... I have tried drysol, it did absolutely nothing. I am going to go to my family doctor and see if I can try a prescription drug, hopefully it works so I can go on and get a CNA.
