Platt College/ Tulsa

Published

I am enrolling at Platt College in Tulsa, OK. I was wandering if anybody in this forum attended Platt. I have read some horror stories about other peoples experiences in various LPN schools, and was wondering if anyone could give me some info on Platt. I'll even accept word of mouth from anyone you might know about! Thank You in advance!

I got this off of a median wage site, and I looked in my local paper and they aren't paying as much as a MA :(

"The lowest-paid phlebotomists in the US work in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas and are at the low end of the pay scales in their facilities, earning $8 per hour. That's up from $7.10 two years ago but almost three dollars an hour less than their highest-paid, nonsupervisory coworkers. "

Why did I have to move to Oklahoma!!!???

bummer. Don't know what to tell you. Just make sure the wages around here for MA's will be high enough before forking over the money. I was led to believe that wages for that would also be around $8, and none of the hours for it really transfer for any other degrees. It stinks, I know.

I don't know if this will help or not but I took my 7 year old dd to the Dr friday (her Dr is in Norman--we are not in Tulsa) and the nurse who came in to check her bp and temp and all that I could tell was new and I asked her where she graduated from and she said Platt College and had been working in the Dr's office since graduation.

Just wanted to mention that. I don't know if the Platt college here in OKC is different from the one in Tulsa (I know you guys were talking about accredidation, etc) but she was working as a nurse at least. I personally know nothing at all about Platt college.

Was she an LPN or RN graduate from Platt? You know they received accreditation after all and have pretty high pass rates on the NCLEX-RN this year. I am seriously wondering if they just got a bad rap....?

I'm not sure if she was an RN or an LPN.

It is hard trying to find the best school to attend isn't it?

Besides the NCLEX pass rate, find out what their retention rate is as well, I think that is also very important. I would think you should be able to call the school and see what types of jobs their new grads are landing. Ask if they have a referral service where you could talk to some of their new grads and get the real info from them about the school.

Have you been up there to maybe take a tour and see what kind of "feel" you get from the place. Go with your gut, that is what I did.

Good luck!

what is a retention rate? Do you mean how many drop outs?

I had an appointment with Kathy at Platt College in Tulsa today and I was absolutely blown away by the tuition price for their LPN program. $16,000!!! Why do they cost so much when Tulsa Tech is only $4000? That seems like a huge difference to me and if it is true that they are not getting hired from there, then why charge so much? Does anyone know what the deal is with that? Oh, and she said that their pass rate on the NCLEX is 96%! Somehow I don't believe that. Also, why is there such a big wait list at Tulsa Tech when there is none for Platt? Is it the price or the education?? I want to get my LPN as fast as possible, so that is why I looked into Platt because Tulsa Tech has stopped taking applications until January of '07! Does anyone have any advice on somewhere else I could go that is cheaper, but will definately get me a job somewhere?

Their pass rate for NCLEX in 2005 was 93%, however the National League for Nursing is still not showing them as accredited - they are Oklahoma board of nursing accredited though. You can get a job after going to school there, it just might not be the one you really want at first and you may end up paying on your education for many, many years. They are a private school and can get away with such high prices, but sadly I think a lot of people have to go that way because of the waiting lists for other schools. (I tend to have a bad attitude about them because I felt like all they wanted from me was my money when I was looking into them. They won't give you any information over the phone and then when you're there in the office they really pressure you to sign up on the spot. I didn't like that tactic.) The other options that I know of in the Tulsa area are Central Technology Center in Sapulpa and Tri County technology center in bartlesville. I think tir county only enrolls for their program in the fall and the application deadline was in march, but I could be wrong about that. I threw away all the information I had on other programs when I was accepted at Tulsa Tech. If you end up having to wait for TTC's next application period, you should know that the day they open for applications you need to be there EARLY! They started accepting them at 7:30. I was there at 6:30 and was 7th or 8th in line. First person had been in line since 11 the night before, but the others in front of me had been there since around 4 or 5. You can always go ahead and get your CNA certification and take medical terminology and Anatomy & physiology, which will put you ahead in the program.

Thank you Lana, you have been so valuable with info!

I looked into platt also but I decided to go with green country tech center in okmulgee. the upside was I got right in. the down side is it is in okmulgee and I live in sand springs. So I run alot of gas. Just another place for you to look into.

Do they have an RN bridge program as well? I don't see it on their website.
