Platt College/ Tulsa

U.S.A. Oklahoma

I am enrolling at Platt College in Tulsa, OK. I was wandering if anybody in this forum attended Platt. I have read some horror stories about other peoples experiences in various LPN schools, and was wondering if anyone could give me some info on Platt. I'll even accept word of mouth from anyone you might know about! Thank You in advance!

I'm also in Tulsa and looked at Platt. At the time I was taking a CNA class at TulsaTech and talked to one of the teachers from the LPN program there about it. She told me that I absolutely should NOT go to Platt. She is the clinical coordinator for the PN program and said that St. John's won't even let Platt students in the door to do clinical hours there and doesn't hire their graduates without prior work experience. I would have loved to go that route but it seemed too good to be true because it was so easy to get in. Check out TulsaTech's program. I'm hoping to start their's in May, but they have more classes in it starting in October. TT's program is also under $2000!!!!

I looked into platt also and was gonna start tulsatech but then I found green country tech. and it is a self paced course so its not for everyone. But I like it so far I started class in the beginning of Jan. Great class I think. might be worth checking out.

TulsaTech's program is also self-paced. Most people won't take anywhere near as long to finish it as they say it will take. You do need your CNA to get accepted.

let me know what you decide on Platt...I want to know if you enjoy it!

One other note on this. I talked to a girl in my chemistry class on Friday who is an LPN graduate from Okmulgee tech. She now wants to finish her RN at TCC but said the program she went to wasn't accredited and now she has to take a challenge test at TCC that's supposed to be at least as hard, if not harder than the LPN boards. She said she thought Platt was the same way - not NLN accredited, which is what schools look at.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Cathy i nadmissions at Platt said that they are accredited by the national league of nurses. Where can i check this out for sure?

Here's the link for the National League for Nursing accrediting commission. It lists all school that are accredited through them. Platt is not listed here. In case the link doesn't work, on the left side of the page there is button that says NLNAC Accredited nursing programs.

why on earth would they lie to me? I cam so frustrated...Thanks for the link.

I don't know. Several of us in chemistry were talking about schools Friday and there was another girl there who had gone through the medical assistant program at Platt and they had told her how there were sooo many job opportunities for it here and they would help her find a job when she finished. After $11,000 she finished a year ago and still hasn't found a job. She's now starting prereq's for some of the health programs at TCC. I'd talked them previously about the MA program and then again this fall about the nursing program, and just felt like they only wanted my money.

I know you said you need something close, but is the program at Sapulpa close enough? Or maybe you could consider one of the other healthcare programs at Tulsa Tech for now?

did she say why she hasn't found a job? I was considering Community Care College for the MA program because a lady at TCC said it was the closest to their program out there. Are there not enought MA jobs in tulsa? Or was it that Platt didn't provide the placement?

I don't know about the job. I've seen ads for MA's so it may have just been because she's from platt. I went through the first year of the MA program at TCC before I decided to do nursing. Part of the first year was phlebotomy and I found out while doing it that phlebotomy jobs pay as much if not more than MA jobs do and phlebotomy can be completed in either the 8 week or 16 week program. I loved it! I haven't heard much about Community Care College, but it's close to where I live so I drive by it all the time.
