If you are a yoyo loser & gainer lipo is definitely not for you. Lipo is for people who are at thier goal wieght, have been thier for awhile but still have pockets of fat that dont respond to weight loss methods like diet or excercise (e.g. saddlebags, love handles that wont budge). Also check your Dr.s certs if you do decide to do it, but I think a good Dr. Will tell you no, esp if you yoyo

Nessa I agree with you.

Dabestrn how much are you wanting to lose? I have also been told that Lipo is for people with pockets of fat *like love handles* but I do disagree that the doctor will tell you no. If he is a good doctor he will tell you no but I know of doctors doing it for people that want to lose 70 lbs. Talk to your doctor on other options.

A good friend of mine had lipo a couple of years ago...there was a certain criteria as so many Kgs' to goal weight, etc. Recovery was AWFUL. Drains, swelling, pain...

As always, it's a personal choice. Good luck with whatever you choose :)

I say if you want it then have it! :) You really only have to make yourself happy when it comes to your own body.

I have read about some deaths linked to tumescent liposuction- possibly related to the lidocaine concentration (the reason you don't go under is because they infuse the vascular system with this). I would do some research about this before I decided, and be sure to ask the MD about this when you visit. Personally, it's your choice to make and I say if you're aware of all the risks and still choose to do it, more power to you. :>) However, you also must consider that you're choosing a surgical procedure to rid you of the fat 'forever', but considering your yo-yo dieting experiences, this is not a permanant solution. You can still gain weight post-lipo, except *after* the surgery the weight may not come on evenly. If you're not committed to maintaining weight loss, you could end up looking lumpy in those areas that fat were removed from. Just a thought!

I had tumescent liposuction done about 5 years ago and am very pleased with the results.I am 5'5 and weighed 145 . I was at normal weight, but had pouches on my abdomen and thights that I wanted taken care of. I work out regularly and did not use it to lose weight-just look better at the weight I was. Recovery was messy, but not unbearable. Lots of draining and fluid leaking out. Also, one has to wear conforming garments which are very snug while you heal. I would make the same decision as I did then to undergo it. it is expensive-mine cost 5000 and insurance did not cover any part of it. But I would caution you--your skin must be elastic enough and you must not be too overweight, or a reputable surgeon will not work on you. Also, weight can be regained and it does not come on evenly after this. Good luck, Think long and hard and talk to someone with expertise in the field.

I worked for a cosmetic surgery office/dermatologist where lipo was done and I had it done twice there as a perk. Note: Lipo is not for weight loss but for contouring the body. As for the actual procedure, I was awake the entire time but had a valium or two for relaxation. Just check out different physicians who do this and check them out thouroughly. Find people who had theirs done with these doctors and talk to them if possible. Recovery was not bad...just needed a couple of days to recoup...there is draining and I didn't not have any pain but some soreness. Like I said it's not for weight loss but for shaping.

Yep. Lipo is NOT a substitute for weight control. The literature makes this very clear, as will any competent plastic surgeon.

How do you know a Doc is the right one? How do you know what a "good" price is also for services rendered? Anyway to compare? My wife is thinking of getting lipo for saddlebags and love handles and we are trying to find a good doc for this for a reasonable price. any ideas??
