pinning blues

Sounds like a fantastic idea. I personally am not interested in going to my pinning/graduation since I've already graduated once before. But be that as it may, I've at least tried to be helpful, positive and supporting of those who are interested.

That is a really good idea. Seriously whats someone gonna do with 15 dollars nowadays? How greedy of them.

I also think that's a great idea. You're classmates didn't bother to help so, their input really shouldn't matter. It may sound harsh, but that's the reality of it. You might want to get the input of the other 4 that were helpful.

Years ago I was in your shoes. Only a few of us planned everything and it was stress city. When it was over I wrote checks to all those who had assisted and closed out the account. The school wanted us to leave the money for the next class, but we did not feel like we were obliged to do that so we split the difference. If I recall correctly it came to about the same as the cost of the pin. BTW, attendance was 100% of the class and all their family. So they wanted it to happen but did not want to participate in the planning. I would not do it again.

That sounds like a fantastic idea to me! What a great tradition to start also! You could be the 1st class to help a lower classmate out.

I am actually looking forward to pinning way more than graduation! We make ours very personalized and have been taking lots of pics to do a slide show. A scholarship sounds nice, but will they use it if they are already graduating? Chances are if they are in financial need, they will not be rushing back school for BSN or MSN and what is left is certainly not enough..maybe establish a scholarship for an incoming student..

ps in all fairness to the "no time" thing. I have 4 children, I work and I have to travel over an hour away from home for school..I would love to do more to help my class, but its not possible. Maybe some people are getting defensive because they do not have the opportunity to help more. Sometimes I admit I get snappy at some of the other students who have more time than I do to do the extras. They make some of us feel like bad people if we cant do something...

no i understand completely, i work full time and change clothes in the bathroom at work to get to school on time five days a week. i rarely have time to eat any dinner most days, that is if i can afford to buy any.

90% of my classmates do not work, have no children, get a ton of federal assistance and/or still live with mom & dad. they talk about how they went out and had their hair and nails done, went shopping, saw this movie, scrapbook, play on myspace, etc. we even have one peach who brings in filet mignon for dinner once a week that she will proudly tell you she bought with her pell grant money. that is why im annoyed.

we are going to give the scholarship to an underclassman. not one of my classmates. i know $200 is not much... but it would have been a tank of gas and a full belly for me and i would have been incredibly greatful. i am hoping i can do the same for another student who is working hard, scraping to get by and still getting good grades like i did.

I like your idea a lot! I was going to suggest splitting the money among the ones who helped; to help pay for their pin...but this idea is even better! As for how to deal with your lazy classmates...don't. You will not see most of these people again anyway, so why steam about their behavior...it is definitely their problem! Besides you shouldn't let their attitude ruin your enjoyment of all your hard work...go to your pinning and enjoy the fruits of your hard work! Congrats on making it!
