Pima Community College Fall 2019

U.S.A. Arizona

Hi all! Thought I would get a three going for us! Anyone else getting ready to apply? Just waiting for these last prerequisites to finish up and hit my transcript. I should have a 4.0 GPA in my prereqs and on the Hesi have 8 pts in each math and reading, as well as 10 pts for A&P. Plus health-related job experience, a previous degree and volunteer hrs. So I think my points should sit at 94. I'm going to apply for the GCU CEP but also think I will apply to NAU. How about everyone else?

Actually, for most CEP programs, the courses start during the semester before you start Pima. So summer this year. The list was in the info packet I believe. A friend sent it to me. For ASU, it just says to contact their CEP enrollment center: 602-496-0937 or [email protected]. Most people choose the NAU CEP because it is cheaper than ASU, just a little tidbit!

So I have made the decision to turn down the UA MEPN seat and just sent my acceptance for the GCU CEP! I am super excited! I still have to grapple with the ultimate decision of Pima/GCU or the NAU traditional BSN program come April, should I be accepted there too... But at least I am on my way!

What are the pros and cons for each program?

Pima/GCU:

Pros- Pima is a quality program, end up with a masters degree, take the NCLEX 6 months sooner

Cons- Not super keen on GCU (for-profit school, religious affiliation), costs more for the masters degree but I'm not sure I NEED a masters (though I do want a masters), initially graduate Pima with an associates with may not be as marketable as a BSN, have to continue school in the masters program (online) for an additional 18 months after taking NCLEX and having to continue school while I am working as a new grad nurse

NAU BSN:

Pros- best quality education (imo), NAU affiliation is attractive to me (more than GCU and even Pima), graduate with a BSN which is most marketable in the new grad job market, I may only need the BSN for my career goal (RN case manager)

Cons- takes an additional full semester before I can work as a nurse, no masters degree as I likely will not ever be returning to school (due to student loan debt from my first undergrad degree + nursing school)

Thanks for helping me lay it all out!

Good luck with this decision. It sounds like NAU is the way to go!

Hello All,

I just found this site and decided to join. I got accepted into Pima's ADN program for the Fall. I also got put on an alternate list for UAMEPN. UA was my first choice because of how short the program is, however Pima's program is waaaay cheaper. I was going to apply to the CEP for GCU masters program because I already have a BS in Public health from UA; but I did not have the BIO 205 lab and BIO 218 done. I am just planning on doing the BSN thru NAU during the third semester. I am so excited to meet everyone! I am also anxious to get more information about starting!

Does anyone know when we will be receiving more information about he New Nursing Student Orientation? I check my emails multiple times a day and I am just so anxious to get started!

If you have a seat in the ADN program, Luis said he can add you to the GCU program as soon as you finish the prereqs! I have a friend taking Bio218 right now and, had she gotten in to the ADN, this is what she was going to do. Contact Luis, I am sure he can have you on track to start the GCU in August if you are taking those prereqs right now? It would be awesome to know someone else doing this program!

Congrats on getting accepted to Pima and being chosen as an alternate for the MEPN. I turned it down partially because of cost as well so I totally get the decision making!

I have been wondering the same thing. I am sitting in stats class right now at west campus. I will swing by the nursing Department on my way out and ask them and let you guys know.

Thank you, I will email him right now! There are just so many options/routes thru pima. I also heard that NAU has a bridge program to get a masters if you already have a non-nursing bachelors but I am not positive on the details. Have you set your mind to GCU or are you still thinking possibly NAU?

Ok so I stopped by the nursing department and no one was at the desk but there were some current students there that I talked to. They just said that we will get an email at some point but that nothing will really happen until closer to the end of summer. They also advised me to start studying pharmacology and to buy a nclex study book and just start doing practice problems and start learning how to answer that type of question, where they are all right answers you just need to find the MOST right answer. So sorry not a great answer for when we can expect an email but still some good advice from current students. Oh they also said to enjoy our summer ??
