At Ocean County College in Toms River NJ you must complete A&P II or Biology II in order to take microbiology. If you have special circumstances, you need to e-mail the dean and they may provide a waiver based upon you background and experience.
All science courses that are required for nusing are offered totally online. I took both A&P I and II online and had a terrific time. It's a reat way to learn no matter where you live.

OCC has quick term semesters that start 5 weeks after the Spring or Fall semesters. Sometimes they will let you begin Microbiology in the quick term if you have taken the A&P II in the regular semester.
I hope this helps.

It's normal for my school- the micro prerequisite requirement is A&P I and II or introductory biology (which makes no sense to me since intro bio doesn't cover any of the same things that A&P does).
Definitely talk to someone at school- I got permission to register for micro before I'd taken A&P- I was taking A&P over the summer and registered for the micro for fall- otherwise I would have had to wait until after my summer classes were done which would have meant registering for a very popular class way too late.
This definately depends on the school. I discussed with my A&P 1 professor the feasibility of taking Micro before A&P 2 because i will have to wake one of them during the summer. She told me that it would be best to take micro first. At the begining of the year we were under the impression that we had to take science courses in a certain order, but then found out it was not true. Good Luck
:twocents:well biology has alot to do with A&P specially when you are on cell structures like the mitachondria, golgi and other parts of a cell .here they dont require you take A&p before micro, however you would need at least 2 yrs of biology in order to skip A&p and go on to micro. I recommend that even though i didnt have prior education of biology and have a 8th grade edu, that its easier to get a lil general biology before taking a&p. I have a B in the class but was hard. If your in no big hurry i say take at least A&P 1 before micro.

Hello,
My class registration started today (oddly enough) and I am currently in anatomy and physiology I. I need to take microbiology, but when I selected it for my spring schedule, I was told by the website that I needed to take anatomy and physiology II before I take microbio.
Is this normal, or is it just a fluke by the registration website? I'm taking A and P II for the spring also and I'm going to see a counselor when school opens next week to see if I can still take it.
But still, just curious. Thanks.
