Phoenix College BIO 201

U.S.A. Arizona

Hello =)

I am enrolled to take BIO 201 online through PC this summer. Has anyone taken this course through PC before? I have taken 30+ courses online while I was working on my BA, but those were more liberal arts classes-not science, so I'm a bit worried!

I took a science course through RIO a few years back and struggled so much with it! I tried to enroll in BIO 201 through Rio, but since my HS transcripts were more than five years old, they were going to have me take the prereqs for it and I just don't have time or moeny for that! I just hope I know what I'm getting myself into!

I appreciate any advice =)

Can someone please tell me what the name of the book is for BIO 201 at PC? I start class on Monday and have the ISBN number, but everytime I search for it, I just get results for the access code. What is the exact name of the book? Thanks in advance!! =)

They say you have to use the online version, but it was a waste. I purchased both the e-text, and bought the actual book off Ebay. You can get the international version of the book on Ebay for about $15 or $20! I think the e-text cost $100 or so. The book is Principles of Anatomy & Physiology by Derrickson and Tortora. You can find it cheap on ebya.

Hi, did you see your class on Blackboard? I was wondering why it's not posted yet? thank you.

It wasn't on there as of last night. The instructor said she hopes to have it up by tomorrow. I went ahead and ordered the hard copy of the text. The online version would have hurt my eyes too bad! Anyone else in the class?

For all those in BIO 201 at PC, the class is now up on Blackboard!

The instructor emphasizes how we need to get the digital text and the hard copy of the text is optional, but I don't know how I feel about spending $130.00 in editition to the $80 I spent for the hard copy. Does anyone know if the same books are used in BIO 202?

miteacher - is there anyway you can PM me with the name of your PC instructor that you liked?

I took BIO 201 about 8 years ago and got an A- should I take it again because its so old? The nursing advisor at Glendale said she doesn't care how old a science is as long as you took it, but I don't know if the other community colleges in the Phoenix area care about the age of the credit. I hate to take it over if I don't have to!

Regarding the text, yes it is the same text used for 201 and 202. You can also still use the digital text if you purchased it. I think the digital text is good for 1 year. I did not feel the digital text was worth it, and I personally liked reading the book better.

Thanks miteacher!

I just enrolled at PC. I read reviews on that instructor at rate my professor, she sounds awesome! I am excited to get my books, but the website doesn't list the books that are needed yet for the fall semester.

They always recommend buying the e-text from ----. It's pretty expensive, over $100, and I myself didn't use it much at all. I bought the used book off of ebay. She's a great teacher, and you will really like the class! If you purchase the e-text, it's good for 1 year so you can use it for 201 and 202.

Thanks for the info on the books. Does the online text have "extras" like interactive exercises? Or is it just basically the book in an online format? I went to Rio for BIO156 and CHM130, I really didn't feel like I needed both the online and the actual book, but the online part had some games that were part of the lesson or short exercises.

Yes, the online part does have some videos & animations. You also use a virtual dissector disc, but you will put up the free disc from the college library.

I would just buy one or the other, either the e-text or the online book. You definitely don't need both. The thing I liked about the book was that you could flip through it while taking the test if you needed to quickly look up an answer or two. The tests are timed, but you can look up a couple questions quickly if you need to. She suggested buying the anatomy coloring book, but again, I did not use mine and ended up reselling it.
