Phoenix College BIO 201

Hello =)
I am enrolled to take BIO 201 online through PC this summer. Has anyone taken this course through PC before? I have taken 30+ courses online while I was working on my BA, but those were more liberal arts classes-not science, so I'm a bit worried!
I took a science course through RIO a few years back and struggled so much with it! I tried to enroll in BIO 201 through Rio, but since my HS transcripts were more than five years old, they were going to have me take the prereqs for it and I just don't have time or moeny for that! I just hope I know what I'm getting myself into!
I appreciate any advice =)

I took 201 & 202 online at PC and they were both very easy, and the instructor was great!

@miteacher, did you have to go to the school and take the exams for A&P..thank you... I remember telling you about Micro @ RIO, I initially thought it was okay, but my instructor decided to change grades of previously submitted homeworks...sucks!!!

Really? That sucks! I am going to take the Micro over the summer at Phoenix College. The lab portion is in person, but the lecture portion is online. I emailed the instructor, and she got back to me right away to answer any questions I had for the Micro class. For Micro at Phoenix College, you do the lab portion and lab assignments in person, and the lecture and quizzes online. I think you also have to write some papers too. The instructor has a website for her class that tells all about the class, the assignments, etc...I don't know if I am allowed to post links on this site though.

For the A & P, you did everything online. The only thing you have to do in person is pick up the virtual dissection CD. I thought the instructor was great, and I can email you her name if you would like. I think the classes fill up quickly though, so register soon if you can. I did not spend much time each week on the course. Each week you have 1 quiz that is about 10-15 questions, and you do 4 essay questions each week but only 1 is graded that week. You have 3 bigger quizzes that are timed, and then you submit the other essays that you did.

I took science classes at RIO too, and hated them. Phoenix College is great for the classes! Much less work, better instructors, and I actually learned more!

I was looking at Gateway's A&P and it's only for 4 weeks..I think I need more time than that!!! will have to take it at PCC...good luck with your micro--it's fun, I actually learn a lot, but my essays writing skills is not of my instructor's liking.. :confused:

I think 4 weeks is not enough time for each class. You would have to do 3 lessons each week and that isn't enough time to really absorb all of the information. I think 6 or 8 weeks would be doable, but 4 is crazy! This instructor is not picky about the essays at all, as long as you answer the question, it does not have to be long. I did not have any essays that were over 1 paragraph! I had emailed her at the beginning because I thought she expected them to be long and drawn out like at RIO, but she said she wants the essay question answered directly and to the point. The questions are pretty straightforward too.

The only thing is with the dissector disc, you can only install it on 1 computer after you activate it. I installed it on my laptop, and didn't realize that I wouldn't be able to install it on another computer, so make sure whatever computer you install it on is the one that you will be using for the entire class.

I am worried a little about the micro because we have to cover at least 2 lessons each week, and I don't really know what to expect in person for the lab portion. I figured this was my only option though. I hated the science classes at RIO, and that was the only other option for me.

Hey :) I am in BIO 205 in the hybrid portion too this summer! I have a lot of courses I am finishing up because I start the GCC/NAU BSN concurrent program in August. Going to be a busy summer. I heard the instructor was great also. I emailed her in Feb and she got right back to me. Send me a message so we can go over any questions we have together.

I did buy the access code, which just gives you the access online, and did not really use it at all. I just bought an older version of the same textbook on ebay, for a small fraction of the price. The older version is almost identical to the newer one, and contains the same information. For 201, you will use the virtual dissector quite a bit. For 202, you will not use the anatomy disc as much and will use the textbook for the physiology part.

I wouldn't waste my money on the access code unless you are someone who needs to see the animations. There are some animations and little videos on the site that were neat, but really I only used the site a few times. The disc is what I used most for the first course (201) and for 202, I just used the book I got on ebay by Dickerson & Tortorra. They say that they give you a discount on the book, but I found it on Ebay for less than half of what they wanted to charge after the "discount".

There is some body atlas that comes with the text as well, but I never used it. If you have a good anatomy book like the Tortorra one, you should be fine. The e-text is the Tortora & Dickerson principles of anatomy & physiology, but I never liked using the e-text. I preferred to actually read the book, and then take the notes using my laptop.

Also, she recommends using an anatomy coloring book, but again, I bought this and never used it. The book was huge, and I don't recommend it. It's up to you, but you could always wait and see after the first week or so, and then if you need to purchase the e-text, then do it. It was over $100, and I never really used it.

Thank you.:yelclap: I just need to know if i really need it--to access quizzes and exams.. I have online classes at MCC last year and we used the txt book's access code for exams..

I can use the RIO textbook for reference..I feel so much better that It will not go to waste..I dont have the money to buy any more text books..
