Phoenix college bilingual program

Hi! anyone that can give me information on the Phoenix CC bilingual program? I know that they interview you, but what are their basis for eligibility? What do they base the interview on? What kind of questions do they ask? Anyone going through the program right now?

Thank you in advance :p

Hi there,

I am currently in the SMCC/Gateway bilingual program. As with many things, there have been growing pains, but I would recommend this program to anyone waiting to get into nursing school. You do NOT have to take a loan out to attend, you do however have to fill out a FAFSA every year, whether you choose to take money out is up to you.

For admission, you do have to write an essay in spanish and there are interview questions in spanish as well. A bit nerve wracking, but definitely doable. :specs:

Good luck in whatever you decide! For what it is worth, I applied to the bilingual program in March and started my first block in August of that same year, so it really beats waiting!!!!!

Essay? do you get to do it at home?

I don't know if i could get away with doing an essay:no:

You do get to do the essay at home. If I recall correctly, it is part of your application packet and it was only a one page statement/answer type thingie. You have to write your answer in english and then in spanish. The "interview", at least when I did it, was a group event. A bunch of hypothetical student issues were in a bowl and you had to pick one and give your answer in English and spanish. Took about 3 mintures tops. Nerve wracking to be sure.

Trust me, I was plenty nervous and thought I was going to vomit and not make it in, but totally worth it.:wink2:

Specializes in Pediatric ICU.
..... I will hate to commute to Phoenix all the way from Gilbert during those hours.

Don't let the commute stop you either. I commuted with a fellow student (me from Tempe and her from east Gilbert). We ended up loving the drive because we could review for tests on the way in and de-stress on the way home from clinicals, etc. I was willing to do it so I didn't have to wait another semester. Now I drive downtown to my job and still don't mind the drive. It gives me time to decompress on my way home. Whatever works for you....

At this point all I want is to get into a program and not have to go through the waiting pain. Even if I have to commute to Phoenix.

So the info meetings were yesterday and today right? Can anyone tell us what this meeting was about? give us more info.

Thank you!!!

I went to the info session on monday. You have to be on the waiting list to apply. You had to attend either monday or tuesday's info session to apply because we had to fill out part of the application right there. We had to pick a question they gave us and write 50-100 words in spanish. Next step is to turn in the full application by this coming monday. This includes an essay in english and an essay in spanish. From there they will pick 20 students and let them know by Oct 31st if they are in. The next info session is in March. Make sure MCC has your right email address because they only will let you know about upcoming info sessions through the email you provide.
