good luck to you.

I did call Phoenix CC but the lady I talked to didn't give me much information. She sounded like she was in a hurry and I bet she was bussy with other students.

Anyways thank you for your info I also called Southmountain CC and I didn't like it either, their requirments and hours won't work for me.

Thank you again I hope I can get more inforamtion latter.

Thank you !!!! that was just what I was looking for

Hope you got into the program. I am a recent graduate who was in the bilingual/traditonal mixed program at Phoenix College. From speaking to those in the "bilingual" program, they were given a basic interview. I know someone who spoke NO spanish, but broken italian, and was let into the program. I know of others who spoke basic spanish, and were also let in. I guess it depends on how many spanish speaking people apply. Don't give up. The only difference between the normal "english speaking" program and the spanish program is that the college requires a basic spanish medical terminology to be taken adjunct with the regular program. All of the other required nursing classes for a degree are in english. If you have basic spanish skills, apply!!! You have a better chance of being accepted. Good luck!

wow I didn't know that. I am still working on my prereqs, and I hope to be done by May of next year and be able to start the nursing program by fall 2009. I also hope they don't change their hours, their program right now is from 1pm-9pm and that works better for me, but I heard that they may change it to 8am-5pm. I will hate to commute to Phoenix all the way from Gilbert during those hours.

I'll be attending the info session this coming Monday. This gives me hope. I thought I might have to write an essay as proof that i'm bilingual :/

I speak spanish but not an advance level. I stopped speaking spanish when i was 10 years old.

Thanks for the info!:wink2:

Please let us now how he info. session goes. And if they are going to change their schedules, etc.

Just for a little clarification to one of the posts. I am currently in block one at PHX college. We are integrated. Meaning that the Bilingual and Traditional program are taught in the same classroom. The hours we go are Monday, 7:30-12. And then Wednesday and Thursday from 7-2. I saw another post saying that it was an evening program, and I did not want you to have that bad information. Other blocks may go in the evening, but as I said, in block one, we are going in the morning.

Hi there,

I am currently in the SMCC/Gateway bilingual program. As with many things, there have been growing pains, but I would recommend this program to anyone waiting to get into nursing school. You do NOT have to take a loan out to attend, you do however have to fill out a FAFSA every year, whether you choose to take money out is up to you.

For admission, you do have to write an essay in spanish and there are interview questions in spanish as well. A bit nerve wracking, but definitely doable. :specs:

Good luck in whatever you decide! For what it is worth, I applied to the bilingual program in March and started my first block in August of that same year, so it really beats waiting!!!!!
