I'll tell you how they come in handy . . . after you have taken them you are allowed to take home the BSN. And on a daily basis you can do the work you want to do.
BSN programs have to distinguish themselves from diplomas, etc. Classical philosophy and general education courses like statistics are two examples among many of the courses that bachelor's prepared people must take.
Kanzi MonkeyPlease, tell how they will come in handy.
Thanks
My philosphy credits were in biomedical ethics. So they came in very handy.
Since you are going for BSN, you're likely going to be taking a research class, which teaches you how to really read and understand what research articles are saying, so statistics will help with that. And it's really amazing how differently I look at studies now since I did take that class.
And, as said above, both classes require that you stretch your mind and really how to think beyond what you're used to.

Is that ever the truth . . . . my mind is so stretched I can't stand it.
(5 pages for one stats problem . . . .)
I do agree though - it is important to get a well rounded education. Both classes will serve you well.

Every class I've taken has affected me in some way. This includes Statistics and other gen ed classes. Even the Art 101 class I took changed me. I look at advertisements a bit differently and see things I didn't before. I think this is the benefit of general education class - they round out your perspective and teach you about differences.
Statistics, specifically for nursing, I hear, is helpful for reading studies and journal articles. You are less dependant upon others' representations and interpretations.

I use my statistics classes every day. I'm a community health nurse and I've got to be able to tell good research from bad; I also need to take numbers and make them meaningful to lawmakers and the general public.
