Hi all,
I was just wondering if anyone has applied to the Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in NYC for the coming year? I am looking to get into their part-time evening program that would begin in Spring 2011. I'm taking the NLN this Wed and really nervous about it, really just the verbal part....
@Marcos... the PDA files are all cheaper on this site..
Thanks for the reply! I actually live in jersey but work in nyc at memorial sloan kettering. what other schools r u applying to? i am plannin on working full time and this seems to be the only program within the area that is most accommodating...did you send ur application before taking the test?good luck to you!
HI starlette926,
I really am so glad I came across this forum! I too work at Memorial Sloan Kettering 9a-5p so I think its amazing that I am not the only one thinking about workign FT and going for nursing. Congratulations on being accepted. Could I please pick your brain for a moment.
I am planning on applying to Beth Israel-
1) Do you have a bachelors degree prior to attending the program?
2) Will you be using tuition reimbursement from MSKCC?
3) Would you suggest I take any other pre-reqs to better my chances?
4) I really would only be able to apply to the weekend/night class, what are my chances of getting in.
Any advice you can give I can't thank you enough!
Thank you!!!

Hi there!
Good luck with applying =)
1) Yes I have a bachelor's degree in Psych, but it's not necessary. There are people just coming from HS that are applygin.
2) I was planning on using tuition reimbursement, but I got a scholarship so it won't be necessary. I have been reimbursed for my prereq courses though...so if you have questions about reimbursement in general i can help answer them
3) I don't think taking prereqs will better your chance of getting in, it just makes it easier during nursing school. I took most of the courses already so I'm really only taking the nursing courses and the pharmacology course at the school. They also suggest you take as many courses outside of PBISON because a) it's cheaper - esp if you go to a local community college, and b) you'll have less courses to take during nursing school.
4) chances of getting in depend on NLN scores, previous college GPA (which i think needs to be 2.5??? but I would look at the catalog - which is online), and then a strong interest in nursing basically...they are really flexible with the programs so if you get accepted to one program but then as you start you find that it doesn't suit you, they easily switch you into the other program that is more suitable for you.
if you have any questions PM me and we can meet up or something since u work at MSK too! are you at main campus?
Hi all,
I just got a weird email from a company saying they're working for PBISN for the background check. The company is A-Check America, and although the company seemed legit, the email/info form seemed shady enough that I'm hesitant. For example, it says I have until midnight on Sunday to complete the information and I got the email Friday afternoon, so there's no way I can even check with the school about it first. Did anyone else get something like this, or do you think it sounds phishy?
Also, starlette, when did you hear about your scholarship/when did you apply for it? I was wondering if they got through them all already.
