PHILIPPINES NEW (RN) GRAD coming to New Zealand

Published

Hey guys... just to let you know that any filipino/nas considering of applying to NZ, it's easier for you to take the IELTS over there as it is much cheaper than taking it here. There's not many Nurses in NZ and am pretty sure that it would be really easy for you new Grad to get in. The Immigration are less strict about genuine people looking for a job especially Nurses.

Sorry, but one of the requirements to even getting a visa to do a bridge program there is to have a passing result on the English exam. It cannot be done once the nurse gets there.

Same thing goes for Australia, Canada, and the US. Proof of English skills must come first.

And one also needs experience first as well as a local license to even be considered for licensure there.

how many months/years of experience does one need to apply for the bridging program?

sorry but i have to disagree . IELTS cost in NZ is around 295nzd , about 10k php almost the same when you take it in the Philippines . and its not true that the IELTS exam is easier in NZ. New grads will have a hard time getting registered at the Nursing COuncil of NZ as they now require at least one year post registration work experience. And before you can register you have to undergo the Competency Assesment Program for 6-8 weeks.

the nznc recommend 1 year post registration experience before you get approved to enter the competence assessment program. they have become strict these days. a lot has been denied, most (whom i know) are second coursers. one piece of advice, :twocents:, if you're a second courser, before paying nz$465, better prepare yourself, there's a big chance of you getting denied. anyway they are going to refund nz$65 and you will be given the chance to appeal your case. :argue:

I'm a newly registered nurse here in the Philippines and i have no working experience yet since it is really hard to find a job nowadays here. Someone in NZ advised me to get a tourist visa after taking the ielts to be able to get to NZ and undergo the bridging program. Is that really possible? Please enlighten me. Thanks!

Sorry, but that is very poor advice and could get you into quite a bit of trouble with the government there. First of all, being a new grad and without any work experience, and they are not going to even consider you for the bridge program. They are requiring a year of experience before they will let you do the program that they have there.

And going on the tourist visa will not permit you to stay long enough to complete the bridge program once you would meet their requirements.

And if there are no jobs in your country, then you are going to need to find another country that will accept you and you need to meet the requirements of that country.

Please take the time to do some reading on this forum, even in this thread just above where they just stated again, that one needs a year of experience. It does not matter what was done in the past by someone, but the issue is what the requirements are now, and they need to be met.

The bottom line is that you need about $10,000 NZ before they let you in.

My brother in law, who is a permanent resident in New Zealand, do not recommend going there under a tourist visa. Most nurses who went there under a tourist visa ended up working as a care giver and are being exploited by their employers. You will just end up frustrated and unfulfilled.

Specializes in medical, surgical, icu, geriatric, pedia.

whats their reason why their denying entry to second coursers??
