Hi Everyone! I'm newbie here. I wanna ask for your advises regarding CA nclex RN exam. I'm an RN in Philippines and Saudi Arabia-licensed nurse too( worked 6 years in Saudi in NiCU)and I 'm here in California now on fiancée visa and will be getting my SSN after getting married which is not too long from now. So what are steps to be able to take nclex RN in California? What's the recent requirements to be eligible to take the test? Any response will be highly appreciated. Thank you and GOd bless

If you graduated with your BSN before 2005, you might stand a good chance to meet the strict CA BRN concurrency rules and be eligible to take the NCLEX-RN, if not, there's a good chance, that you will not qualify to take the same exam in CA.

There's plenty of reads on this concurrency issue and suggest you prepare yourself in the event, your transcripts do not meet the requirements.

There are also other reasons transcripts can be denied due to lacking clinical hours, missing certain nursing subjects and these are items plaguing the PH applicants.

Just know that only very few have been granted the ATT in CA since Nov. 2011 (time period) that the CA BRN started to strictly enforce the concurrency rules written in 1987.

Going out of state to get a license and trying to endorse back into CA will not work either, as CA will always want to review your transcripts in-house and do not depend on the outside evaluation agencies.

While you have several years of paid hospital experience, the CA BRN will not accept those towards meeting any deficiencies they may determine as such from your transcripts.

Do not take this personally, there's literally over 6,500-7,800 stranded PH applicants and that number will grow, so you're not all alone.

Too bad I graduated 2005! What should I do now?

You're borderline, so if I was you, I'd still try and apply anyways. You'll never know until your application is in for their evaluation.

Just know that any and all fees submitted to the CA BRN (and most other state's BONs) have a no- refund policy on the application fees and usually so stated in the application forms you send in.

Good luck!
