Philippine RN and hopefully to Florida

Published

Hi everyone! I am a registered nurse here in the Philippines but I am also planning to practice in Florida, where my relatives live. I was told to apply for CGFNS but I was wondering which service to apply for. The site said Florida accepts/requires CES. So is that all I have to apply for from CGFNS? Or do I have to apply first for Certification Program? It's my first time applying so I think I need some help. Thanks ahead! :)

You have to complete CES first before sending application to Florida

So no need to take the Certification Program service and choose the CES program instead? Both are options from CGFNS. :)

Do you have legal rights to work in the US via a work authorized SS# or proper working visa or ?? Check with the FL BON as not sure if they allow one to take the NCLEX-RN without the proper SS# but I think they will not release the license until such a valid SS# is provided to them.

Next thought is hospital sponsorship (which are most likely not going to happen any time soon) but how many years of paid hospital experience do you have? Even with several years, there's no guarantee of a sponsor since there's no reason for them to have to pay for the complete expenses associated with offering a sponsorship.

Only a handful of states require CGFNS exam and Florida doesn't really require it. better doing CES

Hi vncld,

You said you are planning to practice in Florida where your relatives lived.

Do you have already a US visa?

The reason I asked because the route will be different if you have a US visa.

All you have to do is have your credentials evaluated and submit to Fl.BON

to take the NCLEX.

The other route is an agency thing which I am not much familiar with.

But you can inquire direct to Florida Hospitals, this is where many filipina nurses

were sponsored.

Good luck.PM me if you have other questions that I might can help.

Thanks, charr-RN. Can I email you instead? I can't send private messages yet here on this site. Thanks for that idea. :)

Yes, that may have been the case a couple or few years about the sponsorships, but can you say that there's been more recent sponsorships in the last year? Times have changed and even in the FL boards, there's been maybe one reported in the last 14-16 months, if that.

Maybe there's always that very slim chance but the OP hasn't indicated if she's more of a new grad or an experienced nurse to qualify for a sponsorship, one will not be possible and other one could help, but no guarantees.

What we read and understand in today's changing job environment is that there's more abandonment of PH nurses that have waited for many years, only to have the sponsored employer simply cancel or not go forward with their previous agreement, which I'm sure there was always some legal language in their contracts that such agreement can be voided or canceled or removed or revoked at the employer's sole discretion.

Please help. My father has a petition for me to go to florida. I'm a registed nurse here in the philippines. My question is do i have to get CGFNS even they paid for my immigrant visa. Is there a difference between visa screening for CGFNS and immigrant visa. Hope someone can explain this to me.what should i do. More power to everyone.

If you are getting a family based immigrant visa then you do not need a visa screen certificate however you still have to follow BON requirements and if they require CGFNS for CES report then you have to go through with them

i took nclex-rn for Florida before in makati ,.u just need Credential evaluation from cgfns ..goodluck
