hi im a new nursing graduate and im wondering which philippine tertiary hospital gives a good training/working experience for a new grad like me...your tips and advices is appreciated much.. thanks!

hi! i am also a recent board passer. My friend and i applied a v luna medical center (afp). You'll be working as a volunteer for 6 months but the good news is you won't have to pay a fee. (although you will have to pay for their iv training w/c costs like Php1400). If you pass , the training will start on feb. 2008. So far I have passed the first exam w/c is a multiple choice type, true/false and matching type. 100 questions and the passing is 75. Next you'll be scheduled for a competency exam and then an interview.

Why not apply for the Nurses Corp instead. The pay is really good. The army needs nurses right now. My sister was in Phil Army nurse before she came here. She spent several years with the AFP.

if you want to gain a reputable experience in a hospital setting, you should seek employment in JCI accredited hospitals. JCI is an international accrediting institution for healthcare providing companies (i.d. hospitals and clinics). (www.jointcommissioninternational.com)

in such hospitals and clinics, you will be exposed to international standards of managed healthcare, worldclass facilities and services as well as highly trained, technically proficient, culturally sensitive doctors and nurses.

in the Philippines, we only have two JCI accredited hospitals as of date, st. luke's and the medical city.

quirino memorial medical center is a good training ground, and i say "training" only coz they dont hire as of the moment.. at 1k per month, ul be exposed to different areas and most of my friends hu had their training there said that it was really good.. to say they'r now working at pgh.. ul even get the chance to be placed in the ICU, OR, etc aftr 2months i think..

I think PGH offers a 6mos training but of course with pay. Ive seen nurses working in there and they were so busy. Cool, you'll really learn.. and with that 6mos training, you will be able to rotate all the areas (with what ive heard ha).. and the coolest area for me is the ER department. They have ICU, OR, and Observation Unit for pedias and adults on their ER Dept.

hey' Ive just heard recently that Cardinal Santos is already a JCI accredited hospital...

For training purposes, I suggest you try PGH's program called APCN (Advancement Program on Clinical Nursing). It costs around 8,000; lasts for 6 months: 1st 4 months you will be rotated in the MS, Pedia, & OB ward; last 2 months will be on the specialty ward of your choice. HOWEVER, I will suggest that you do this after you have PASSED the NCLEX, simply because it is too tiring, and the standard of care is way below normal. THE GOOD THING IS, US hospitals recognizes PGH as one of the best in the country. Training & experience from them will look good on your resume.

Hello everyone! I am also looking for a good hospital where I can gain hospital experience while waiting for my packet 4. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

Hi! I am working in a secondary hospital here in Pagadian City. they will give you certificate if you will finish the 6-month contract. 1st month you wont receive any allowance, on the second month you will receive 1600/month. on the third month that's the beginning of your 6 month-contract with pay. You will have your duty for 12 hours:-) like 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am.

hi dermachiq,

i already sent u a pm

same problem, can you help me too?

Hi amber_snow

Im looking for job experience paid or volunteer for at least 6 months, which hospitals offered you training without pay? hope you can share them with me

Try Philippine General Hospital (PGH), they have a program called APCN (Advancement Program in Clinical Nursing). It's 6 months of exposure in different wards, the last 2 months will be in the special area of your choice (ER, ICU, OR, Dialysis, etc.). Fee is Php 8,000
