PHCC Fall 2010 (LPN/BRIDGE/RN)

Published

Hi all :)

I decided to start a new thread since the last one has something like 275 comments. It's a tad overwhelming!

Any questions, concerns, comments, etc regarding Pasco-Hernando Community College's programs? This is your thread:nurse:

We have decided on a meeting time and place. Here are the details:

When: Saturday evening, July 17, 7pm til whenever.

Where: Brass Tap in Wiregrass

Why: Faces to usernames :) lol--Seriously, won't it be great to meet the people who have been stressing out with us for the past several months?

If you have questions about the plan, feel free to pm me :) Also, if anyone has any brilliant ideas on how to recognize one another, feel free to share!

RN-to-be...

Went back in this thread and read about Doctors clinic but they want $90 from me, not $20 :/

Hmmm, try another one? The one near my work has a banner outside advertising the $20. Or Walgreen's Take Care Clinic does them for $35.

Good luck! Perseverance is a trait we're going to need!

Anyone else attending the information session for Regional Medical Center's sponsorship program tonight at 5pm, West campus? It's the yellow/gold papers in our information packet. I don't necessarily need school paid for (Pell & other programs) but I sure could use a job/small income during school and job placement after graduation.

Heading up early to visit Financial Aid too. Little bit of stress creeping in!!

I was considering it but the kids day is full. I think I will call for information :)

LMK is you go and find out any good stuff to share!

Stressed to the max. Beyond stressed. Unbelievably stressed. I need another way to deal with my stress (wine, sangria and margaritas...not so good! lol)...

I do believe the walgreens one is for sports/kids only. :( I'll call and ask though.

That's where I did mine, so there shouldn't be any problem...the NP said school physicals are school physicals. Just be sure to bring any titer/immunization documentation that you have with you as it's part of the form they have to fill out.

Good luck!

Scrapworking, I'm going to the sponsorship info session tonight. See you there.

I haven't been on here in over a week and I am SO bummed I missed the meet up! See you guys at orientation.

Sharon, it was nice to meet you today!

Today was my last day of Microbiology!!!!!:yeah: So happy it's over. Now I just have 3 weeks of vacation and then it's all starting again.

I went to the meeting today for WIA and the Bayonet Point sponsorship. They have 12 spots available and if you signed in and left your number Bayonet Point will give you a call to schedule an interview once you get the WIA ball rolling. I'm off to the Spring Hill office tomorrow to hand in my stuff. So even if you don't want a sponsorship with Bayonet Point, you can still get free money if you meet all the qualifications (which are specified on that gold/yellow paper that was in everyone's packet). So check it out guys! :)

Congrats on finishing Micro :) I know that is a HUGE relief!

I called the number on the goldernrod paper for WIA and left a message. It was very weird, nothing but an immediate "Please leave a message" or something similar, followed by a beep, so I left a message and will cross my fingers, and probably call again tomorrow :)

Sort of confused. Is that how you get the WIA ball rolling--by calling? Waah...lol

"All the qualifications"? or one? The paper says one. I wish I could have gone, darn it.

To get the ball rolling on WIA (and this is for anyone that qualifies...see the gold/yellow sheets in the packet, whether you do the hospital sponsorship or not) you have to first go to an orientation. The NPR office is booked up, so they recommended calling the Spring Hill office (sorry, don't have the phone number) first thing tomorrow morning at 8am when they open, to reserve a seat for the same-day orientation (they weren't sure of the actual time, but thought it was maybe 1pm).

The reason is that they want you to get things done as quickly as possible - in general, because it's a process. Remember the school's deadline for tuition is August 10th...though that didn't seem to be a hard and fast deadline for nursing students with financial aid/sponsorships/WIA benefits. The sooner you get started and get them paperwork/documentation, the sooner you'll get an answer and financial help. They will expedite as much as they can...I remember that you'll need your social security card, driver's license, utility bill or something that proves your address-has to be in your name though, proof of income (total household) for the last 6 months. Maybe someone else can help, if I've missed anything.

I'd gather all this information tonight to take with you to orientation. Also to consider, take your acceptance letter, the breakdown of costs for the program, military discharge papers, they may have you do a budget worksheet if you have no income (household) to see how you are making ends meet. If you have help from a parent, friend, etc. they may ask for a letter from them. The quicker you can get what they ask for to them, after the orientation, the better off you will be.

Also, this program has limited funding...meaning, if you decide to wait a few months, it might be all gone. WIA is open to everyone in the county(I think it's a Federal program) who meets their criteria, in most professions (not just nursing), etc.

HTH!

Great putting names with faces tonight!!

"All the qualifications"? or one? The paper says one. I wish I could have gone, darn it.

Here is the website for Career Central: www.careercentral.jobs and www.employflorida.com

The New Port Richey office number on the little pamplet I received today was: (727) 484-3400

There is also a Zephryhills office and a Spring Hill office that also do orientations for WIA. Tomorrow is Spring Hills day, each office has a special day for orientation. You need to bring 6 months of proof of income, Social Security card, Driver's License and a utility bill to show proof of where you live. Then I guess after that they tell you if you qualify and whatever else you'll need to do from there.

Sorry....any of the one, may qualify you. If you're not sure, still check with them. Several already had "advanced degrees" - Bachelor's...but older than 5 years or in a unrelated field, and she said they were fine. Income on the sheet was for the entire household, but the limits are now higher, and they look at the last 6 months of income.
