Hi all :)
I decided to start a new thread since the last one has something like 275 comments. It's a tad overwhelming!
Any questions, concerns, comments, etc regarding Pasco-Hernando Community College's programs? This is your thread:nurse:
We have decided on a meeting time and place. Here are the details:
When: Saturday evening, July 17, 7pm til whenever.
Where: Brass Tap in Wiregrass
Why: Faces to usernames :) lol--Seriously, won't it be great to meet the people who have been stressing out with us for the past several months?
If you have questions about the plan, feel free to pm me :) Also, if anyone has any brilliant ideas on how to recognize one another, feel free to share!

Anyone need some White Nursemates from the bookstore, they don't have my shoe size in stock and I have to get them regardless because of the sponsorship and I'll sell them to someone who's size they do have in stock discounted. I don't think they will refund me any of this money so I might as well find someone who might benefit from it.
PM if you have to buy stuff out of pocket and I can work with you on other stuff on the list that I don't need too.
Yaz...what size do you wear? Just in case we wear the same size!
Well, here's what my WIA caseworker (Pinellas county) wrote me today about who pays what, when:
"The WIA program pays after all other grants and scholarships. So, PELL and the hospital's program to aid in tuition would have to be applied first and we would cover any expenses over that. Also, the WIA program does not reimburse. If you would still have a balance after PELL and the hospital's program let me know. Because if you still have tuition or license fees, or books/supplies that are not covered we will assist you in getting that.
If you will have a balance over PELL and the hospital could you get me something showing what the balance is so that I can create a budget and then submit your file for approval. But if all your fees are covered we would not be able to assist. Let me know."
I think I'm going to call Career Central tomorrow and confirm that this is true for them, or if they do it another way. At least in my case (because I get Pell), this was a whole lot of work for basically nothing and the payout order was not what I heard at orientation or the information session. Grrr.
No message updates here either...and my washer quit working Friday, so any money I did find in the couch went towards washing clothes rather than being able to go out & chill with y'all! When it rains, it pours!
If anyone has Bright House cable & internet, you can get a student discount of $10 off your internet service per month, but you have to "apply" for it. Here's the link: Promotions|Bright House Networks Wish I'd have known...I could have saved $150 over the last 15 months I've been in school! (USF, SPC also qualify w/ PHCC!)
Every little bit counts!!
Scrapworking, my shoe size is 9.5 but they only have up to a 9. What size are you? Do you want me to get your size?
Also, BGDRMWVR is also getting shoes but wants to sell them if anyone needs them because she already has a pair and a stethoscope she doesn't need either.
PM me whoever is interested! Thanks :)
Hey guys, I just had my Bayonet Pointe interview this morning and I think it went really well. They have 4 slots available to fill but the Director of Nursing (who interviewed me) said she gave me a thumbs up :) I'm hoping I get in because I will be dropped from my classes today for non-payment But they said I can re-register.... :/
This just in (on the WIA/Hospital sponsorship)...from my Pinellas county caseworker:
"I wanted to make a correction, initially I was told we would pay last, but I contacted someone in Pasco County and I think we should work with the hospital program the same way Pasco does. WIA can cover your balance after what PELL pays. So, if you could get me one more piece of information. Can you get me an actual dollar amount for the balance left over after PELL pays, because WIA will cover that. I need this number so that I can correctly request a budget for you. Let me know and that is truly all I need. Thank you for your patience on this."
Not sure how this helps me (if Pell paid last, it would actually go in my pocket & towards living expenses), but at least it makes the effort/aggravation of getting all the paperwork together more worthwhile since the hospital & WIA are sharing the cost of the balance.
I usually wear an 8, but I haven't tried anything on to check for sizes. I'm in the same situation, having everything paid for, so I might as well use it because I won't get any of it refunded to me.
Congrats MJ!! That's great news...fingers crossed for you on getting the official call. And no worries on your classes - you'd get moved into the BP section with the open slots. Wonder if that leaves your seat open for someone totally new to get into the program?!
Talked to S @ CC in Spring Hill. Here's the clarification I was looking for!
Pell pays for tuition only. So, if you get enough Pell to cover your tuition in full, WIA/Hospital doesn't need to kick in. If you don't get the Pell or enough to cover tuition, then it does kick in, up to the amounts they've agreed. WIA/Hospital pays for the rest: books, uniforms, supplies, etc. up to their limits. Because Pell and WIA are federal funds, they work side-by-side, not concurrently.
Off to put a spreadsheet together of non-tuition expenses for my caseworker!
Congrats MJ!!! I hope you get it!!!! :)
Scrapworking, we had to do the same exact things with our WIA caseworker. Also you can have the bookstore do the inventory for you and make it all official, they have a special form especially for sponsorships and they fill out everything you need that is non-tutition and they stamp it. It's a broken down price list for all the books and supplies needed.
They had us running around all day today, getting our money put into our cards too. Been at school all day....
