I want to meet some of you! I'm just getting ready to take my last 3 finals, have been studying for the TEAS for months now, and will be able to apply for next fall's nursing program (YAYAY!) I'd love to hear from some potential future classmates, how you are doing/ did with pre-reqs/ TEAS, and share the excitement upon acceptances!
Ugh...4:30?! That's torture! My mailman comes around noon. I think your TEAS score is good and will give you a boost in your overall score. From what I've read in previous threads there is a formula they use to calculate an overall score - 50% TEAS + 45% GPA + 5% if youre a pasco resident. So your score would be 79 if youre not a resident or 84 if you are one.
I too took all pre-reqs (except 1) online with SPC while home with my kids. Good times while I'm studying -ones poops on me, while the other one wont stop talking, while the other one spits up on me ....all simultaneously
I like your bubble...I'm in my happy place too.
I can so relate to the chaos! I have four ranging in ages from 9-3 so I am running back and forth to their school 3 times a day because 2 are only there 1/2 days!
Yes, I saw the previous calculations. (I am so ridiculous that I have figured out others scores to see when/who gets accepted I can figure where I fit in to it all - does that make me a creepy stalker person?? ) I've figured out that with the TEAS I am pretty sure to get a seat in the LPN, but I prefer the RN obviously. Just retaking that one psych class gets me back up to a 3.6 and boosts my score to 88 which seems to be a pass into the program. But, I have also stalked previous fall sessions and found that others with 82's and 81's were invited so?!?!
I will cross that bridge when it gets here. If I am not invited into the RN program this Fall, it may be worth taking a semester of Psych and just trying for the less competitive Spring. Knowing me I will overkill and take the TEAS again to get higher on that too Speaking of overkill, did I mention that I even applied to SPC in hopes that my letters of recommendation and personal pleas will fall on a sympathetic ear for an out of county resident? Sigh... It's going to be a LONG week!

I was actually just about to do the same thing after I entered your score
My kids are 1,2, and 7..... no more - shop is closed for good.
I get so obsessed that I read all the previous "fall hopeful" thread for phsc
The scores really just depend on the the pool of people at that particular time so who knows...I think you have a great shot!
I originally was planning on going to SPC because I was misinformed about PHSC's program and never took it into consideration until I researched it on my own one day. SPC's pre-req and gen ed classes are ridiculous and you have to complete them all to be considered even though it says you can apply if your pre-reqs are done and finish your gen ed classes before the program ends. I kept reading how incredibly hard it is to get in for a non-pinellas resident so I jumped ship once I stumbled back upon PHSC. I'm so not trying to be a debby downer just stating my gripes....I would have submitted my application there too if I had *everything* completed.
Fortunately, I do have everything completed from years ago. I went to school for 6 semesters AGES ago so all of that 'fluff stuff' was already completed for me. I just had to do the pre-reqs and statistics to apply. But, I live 1/4 mile out of county so I am 'not a resident' and not given priority. Translation: we won't even look at your app. The good thing is it didn't cost me anything to apply so what's the harm, right?
Don't overlook though that to graduate with an A.S. PHSC still requires 30 hours of general education courses. I assume you know that, but just making sure because of your comment on the gen ed classes.
Interesting little fact: last Fall an out of county resident (Citrus) got into the PHSC program with 85 points!
That's great that you have it all wrapped up- fingers crossed for you.
Yes I know,I worded it poorly. What I was trying to say was that every single class besides your core nursing classes(pre-entry, gen ed, and support classes=30hrs) must be complete before you apply to the program to be considered whereas with phsc as long as your 5 pre-entry classes are complete, you have a chance of getting in and can work on the other along the way. I'll only have micro and stats to do if I get in.
So you live in holiday? Me too. You keep saying your ooold- 36 is NOT old.
Im 33 and do not feel old...I feel "experienced"
MamaBerry, how are you doing/did you do with statistics? I'm finding that it's a lot more work than I was anticipating...and same story with comp! Fortunately comp is ending this week (WOOHOOOOO!) so no more boring paper!
Scarlet, as for your comments on SPC, I was in the same boat! Fortunately, though, aside from briefly exploring Keiser University, PHSC was the only other program I seriously looked into...and here I am now, crossing my fingers and toes to get in! I don't know why schools make it such a headache to get in...I wish we could decide on some UNIVERSAL prereqs!
I woke up really hopeful this morning after spending all yesterday at Honeymoon Island Beach. I have never seen water so blue in my life! (Granted, I'm from South Dakota, so the ocean is still a relatively new thing for me...but still!) ;-P
QUESTION OF THE DAY: DO YOU HAVE ANY PETS? TELL US ABOUT THEM!
Okay, I decided to change the question...we have all worried ourselves crazy about the letters, so maybe a non-medical question is best! :-)
AFwife - Honeymoon Island is my favorite beach to go to! You should try taking the ferry out to Caladesi Island one day too (leaves from honeymoon island) = pure bliss.
I *really* dont think you should be worried about getting in with your scores - you're golden, babe!
as to your QOTD - I do not have any pets. My 3 kids and husband are more than enough for me I honestly do not like animals...I know that sounds bad but I cant deal with the their smell and all that goes with it. I'm not a pet person.
I liked your original QOTD so I want to go ahead and answer that too. I believe it was "What specialty do you want to get into" or something along those lines. I would like to get into surgery (pre-op,post-op, circulating), L&D, and possibly ER. I worked in ambulatory surgery before and loved it -no weekends, no holidays, no nights and dealing with multiple patients short term throughout the day - whats not to love about that?!
HopefulAmanda - Its crazy trying to get anything done with little isnt it? I try to read throughout the day in small increments whenever I can find the time but the bulk of my homework is at night when they are asleep which is exhausting because I get zero down time for myself. I have my eye on the prize though and that alone is enough of motivation and dedication to keep me going.
Rosey - I'm going to check my letter and see what it says....Im curious now.

ScarletJones - Trying not to get my hopes up too much for this week because then I can just be surprised and happy!! Problem is, my mailman recently decided that he will just drop my mail off on his way home from work or something because we don't see him until 4:30 in the afternoon. Ok, not really on his way home... but it sure feels that way. SO when everyone is posting their status, I am going to be sitting on pins and needles for the rest of the day!!
Jupiterxo, yeah, pretty sure we are NOT the only ones that applied, but I like living in a bubble :) It's my happy place until reality strikes. Only got to take the TEAS once so had to submit 86%. GPA - hahaha see, I am a LOT older than most of us here so my psychology from 18 years ago kills me (I got a C - was 18 and just married - had other things on my mind!) My other classes were all taken online through SPC while raising 4 young children so I am stuck with my 3.23 for now. If I don't get in this time I will re-take Psych and A&PI (I've taken A&P II and Micro already) and get A's at PHSC and try again in Spring.
But, remember my bubble? There are rainbows and butterflies here and I am getting in this semester
