So our pharacology class is only 5 test. That sucks. In our school a 77% is a fail score.I passed the first two and didn't do so well on the 3rd one. Any tips on some helpful books? I am worried that pharacology is going to kill me. Does anyone have any suggestions of other types of references besides my book that sort of weeds out the most imortant info?

Pharmacology can be tough. What about your lecture notes?

I just bought the Saunders Nursing Survival Guide for Pharmacology. I haven't started the class yet, I'm just trying to get a head start, cause pharm scares me (even though both my parents are pharmacists)! Therefore, I don't know how helpful it will be to you, but for a beginner, I think it is very helpful. Seems to get down to the point of whats important. Hope this helps! Good Luck!

i'm a nursing student too, in my first year (block 1). do extra research! for example, i'm studying lorezepam. so, i didn't just study my lecture notes. i read all info in the book and then go to google and research the drug further. my favorite, go to videos and watch a video on how your drug works, it will help a ton! promise!
77% is a fail for my program as well. pharm is def my hardest class so i strongly suggest doing extra research and by going online and watching videos and any "fun" extra things you can do to learn about the drugs.
i absolutely hate it when people in class say, "well we don't even have to know that about the drug." my motto, anything extra will help. you can relate it back to what you know and you'll retain it better.
good luck!
Thank you for that. Do you find any resources helpful. i.e. websites, books? Everyone learns differently and I am a visual learner. I do great in clinicals when I can apply the knowledge. I just want to find a website or book that aid in visual learning. let me know if anyone has good resources. Thanks again for your help

I am a visual learner as well. I have not taken a complete "Pharmacology course" though. We only had pharmacology incorporated into each body system in our nursing courses.
I found these things helpful.
"Memory Notebook of nursing book of visuals"
OR
"There is a small pocket sized book with ring binders at the top. I think it is by "Mosby". I thought the pictures in this was helpful for remembering pharmacology.
Another helpful resource is practicng questions for Pharmacology. The questions generally helped to keep me focused on the most important information about the meds and helped me to practice recall of the info.
Try Straight A's for Pharmacology or Pharmacology Made Easy etc. these books will have practice questions and come with a CD with more practice questions.
Best of Luck!!! I hope this helps!!!

We just wrapped up Pharm 2. I know what you mean about the tests, we had three tests and then a final. On book I used was Pharmacology Success amd Saunders NCLEX review 4th edition, blue cover. Both were very helpful. I also got Mosby's neumonic drug card flip book.
Best of luck
