-Well you definitely have to know your side effects of drugs.

-you have to be able to teach patient about consequences of taking drugs like for instance certain drugs dont tolerate sun well so patient must cover themselves while being outside.

-you have to know the toxicity levels of some dangerous drugs.

-nursing considerations for all the drugs.

-Nclex-RN exam cards by Kaplan are a great learning supplement.

-also there is an 150 question exam on CD in RN hesi exam book

-lastly there is also a good book called "Pharmacology Success" A course Review Applying Critical Thinking to Test Taking by Ray A.Hargrove-Huttel (tons of NCLEX like pharm questions.

Uhghh pharm is my weakest subject but with proper resources it does become more easy to grasp~

there is a sticky thread for help in studying pharmacy in the nursing student assistance forum:

It's going to vary so much from school to school and book to book. In our class we had a set list of things to know about each drug. It made it quite nice actually. Side effects and dynamics were huge in my Pharm class as was teaching and then knowing toxic levels for certain drugs (dilantin and dig were the two big ones we covered that were pounded into our heads).

I made my own flash cards from the notes and carried them everywhere with me. I work as a tech at a hospital so when I would come across a drug that I wasn't familiar with, I wrote it down and then looked it up. That helped me a lot too.

I bought the Pharmacology Made Incredibly Easy Book. It was nice to read in place of the text because it was condensed and got right to the point so if I was short on time, I read that book and then would go back and catch what I needed out of the text.
