Hello I'm about to start a cna program Monday and I couldn't be more thrilled its been a life long dream of mine to be in the healthcare field I eventually want to work my way up to RN but there's one small problem back in highschool I made a stupid stupid horrible mistake by shop lifting a t shirt with some girls I was in class with we got caught and I was given what looked like a ticket and got a summons in the mail with a court date, paid my restitution to the store did my class paid my fine. The case was dismissed and that was it . But now I've been hearing ill get denied as soon as we do the live scan and kicked out of the program . This horrifies me is there anyone out there with a similar experience or could give some advice on what I should do ? It's my only misdemeanor EVER. And I don't want it to ruin my life .. Thank you all for your attention :)

Was it before you turned 18? I had a misdemeanor when I was 15, and it did not stop me from being accepted into nursing school or getting my RN license. I think once you turn 18, it's not on your record any more (unless it was something major).
I had just turned 18 in July and it happened in October of 2009 so I was charged as an adult

it may not hinder getting into nursing school, or it might....depends on the school, it may impeed taking nclex, and nursing board might review the issue.........since all this will take place 4+yrs after the offense, and if you behave, and have no further "episodes".....you would possibly get the green light to take nclex. UNDER NO! ABSOLUTLY NO CIRCUMSTANCES omit this information on your application to your board of nursing, in application yo take nclex...... it can REALLY bite you in the booty down the road

I would talk to a school adviser about your background to be safe.
Thank you very much for your input..I want nothing more than to become a nurse and just put this whole stupid mess behind me .

Hey,
I'm new to this website but i got an account because I'm so worried. Two months ago, I was forced to quit my job at a grocery store because me (and a bunch of employees) had been taking candy out of the throwaway bulk bin section in the back. I didn't get arrested and they said the weren't charging me, but they said something about a note on my police records. I am starting nursing school in September and I was just wondering if after the criminal record check, I could be kicked out of the program?
Please help i am so so so so worried and I deeply regret everything!
