Petitioning for DCCC 2014 Nursing Program

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Peace Everyone! I am currently a Pre-Nursing student at Delaware County Community College. I take my TEAS test July 30. I've been studying on and off since last month. I am trying not to be nervous about it. I'm beyond determined to get in! Is there anyone else who has taken the TEAS yet? what scores are considered good enough to get in?? My GPA is fine, and I will be complete all my pre reqs by next Spring. What scores would be considered TEAS test "Waiting List" scores?

Yes we are! I am going on March 12th at 5:30. When I spoke to Nancy she said it was not going to take 3-4 hours as long as you are there on time. A lot of people come later than the designated. Time and it takes longer to register. We are registering for any summer classes (gen eds or math for nurses) and nursing for the fall!

Ok - I will be there too. I was wondering if we would be picking our fall classes. I have all my gen eds done other than A&P II and the math for nurses so wasn't sure what I would get out of it. Great - hopefully we will meet. I have red hair and I'm in my mid thirties, will have a cream coat on.

I was thinking that we could create a Facebook group for those in our class that are on Facebook??

I thought there was a way to test out of math for nurses? Anyone know ?

Awesome! I will look for you. I'm 25 but look younger. I have brownish hair and blue eyes. I'll probably be wearing a north face and black converse. I'm excited that we're picking our fall classes ahead of time so we can get to know people on the program. I think a Facebook page would be nice too. It would make it easier to find people to study with later on. See you soon!

You can test out. They will give you a packet to study in April if you choose to go that route.

Unless things have changed since I graduated from DCCC in 2009, you can test out of the math requirement at the orientation. While the questions are not particularly difficult, you have to get 100% correct. Something as simple as a misplaced decimal point can sink you, which is why the test-out rate is under 30% (or at least it was). Still, it's worth doing - the test takes only 20 minutes or so. You are allowed to use a calculator, though it is supposed to be a non-programmable type.

The orientation isn't 4 hours, but it is long - plan to be there at least 2 hours because they'll go over more than just what classes you need. You'll get info on the physical you need to get, paperwork that needs to be finished between now and July, etc.

Are these ALL prerequisite courses to the Nursing AAS? or are they actually the courses themselves.

Also, there is no mention of the TEAS testing.... are they necessary to take? Why?

Does anyone have any additional information about the Drexel/DCCC program?

Thank you

I appreciate any information that you guys can offer! Its been so helpful just reading the comments on this thread itself

in order to graduate from DCCC, you have to meet the college's general ed requirements for an associate's degree. (these are the sociology, humanities, etc classes in that list) In addition, you have to complete the nursing-specific courses. most people finish all of the general eds before entering the nursing program, so that all there is to take are the nursing classes (those listed as Nur in your list) You take one Nur a semester, and then one of the Nur electives (most of us in my class did the elective over the summer - pharm can be done online, and the clinical enhancement skills can be done in a 2 week "blitz" class where you go 9-2 for 10 days)

The TEAS is the nursing entrance exam; it's the sole criteria they use at DCCC for admission to the nursing program. The "cut off" score varies from year to year, but it's definitely increasing. I know there are folks in my class (we graduate this May - 65 days!!!) who got in the low 60s on the TEAS, but then the class below us I've been told there weren't any lower than a 70.

The -DCCC partnership has you taking drexel BSN classes AT dccc while you're doing the dccc nursing classes. (in this case, you really need to have all the gen eds done before you start the nursing program!) they also require microbio, statistics, and chem (and I think maybe nutrition, I can't remember) you get 40% off drexel's tuition (currently $970/credit, so it winds up around $500/credit) and the tuition rate gets locked in at hatever it was when you take your first drexel course.

Wow thank you so so so much for all of that information!!!! that was so helpful :)

so basically i can take all my gen eds like psych and English and blah blah before getting into the nursing program? but i can only take NUS courses once ive been accepted to the nursing program itself? Do you know when the deadline to apply for the nursing program is? I'm going to start studying for TEAS as soon as possible

this BSN partnership feels like such a blessing! hopefully ill get in! :) congrats to everyone who is already on this path!

Does anyone know the full book list that we need for the fall? I'm trying to decipher what books are essential and what ones I can do without. I'm also trying to see how much to budget for my books

Yep, you can do the gen ends before you're accepted into nursing. You'll just apply to the college (either undecided or health sciences for a major) and then when you're almost done with them, you take the teas and apply for nursing. the deadline is always in Oct, and admissions letters go out in Dec, for starting nursing 110 (fundamentals) the following fall.

Books for nurses 110,you definitely need the Fundamentals of Nursing text (by taylor) , a drug book (Davis drug guide) and a nursing diagnosis book. Those are the MUST HAVE ones (and you do not have to get the most current/newest editions, you can get the next previous for way cheaper on Amazon) I was able to get by without the nutrition textbook or any of the others they had listed. For 2nd semester, you're going to need the maternal child nursing text as well as Lewis med-surg nursing. Again, go with the next to most recent editions to save money! I would also highly suggest getting an NCLEX-prep book like Saunders to help you study for exams starting in 2nd semester. The exam questions are exactly like the NCLEX prep questions in these books. To be honest, for 2 so far now in 211,i rarely read the text, I use other material like the med-surg made incredibly easy and the kaplan review book.

Did they tell you all about Kaplan at the orientation? They didn't tell us anything about it till we started classes! You will have to pay $105 per semester towards the Kaplan review course that you'll do after graduation. You will get study books (one each year) as well as access online to Kaplan study tests.
